The giant cinema spool located outside the Business Centre marks the historic site of the Broadway Theatre.
“The Broadway Theatre was opened on 9th April 1927 with Lon Chaney in “The Blackbird”. It was designed by architect Samuel Rosenthal. The theatre closed briefly in 1938 for alterations to the plans of architect William G. Bennett when it was given an Art Deco style.
It reopened as the New Broadway Theatre on 16th March 1938 with “Arizona Raiders” and “Green Light”. The New Broadway Gardens opened in 1948 behind the theatre. The New Broadway Theatre and Gardens closed in 1964 and was converted into a supermarket."
