This colorized photo of the North Ward Sports Ground from 1945 shows the film presentation set-up, as I imagine it would have been, based on written accounts from the time. The screen and speaker would have needed to be portable and put in position after any Saturday sports activities took place. Patrons without cars would sit in the Grandstand or on seats placed in front on the grass. The idea of using the facilities of a sporting arena as a cinema location was by no means new. This manner of film presentation was common in the earliest Silent Days, and is still popular around the world today for outdoor summer screening seasons.
