When the “Nederlands Dans Theater” opened on 30th May 1972 it was the first of six occasions that J. C. Williamsons would use the Regent in a two year period. With the destruction by fire of the JCW Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1970, and the Opera House not yet completed, Sydney was experiencing a shortage of live venues at that time. The Leningrad Kirov Ballet performed at the Regent from 16th July 1973 and Margot Fonteyn danced from 22nd April 1974.
