David Foley writes - I was a singer with Qld Opera back in 1983, when we did the last ever Opera performances of “Merry Widow” and “Fidelio” in this gorgeous theatre, I had grown up with. The rest of our season had to be adjusted, and in October ‘83 we performed the double bill of “Cavalleria Rusticana” & “I Pagliacci” in the Boxing rink at Festival Hall!!!! A sad loss indeed..but I moved on to sing at the Sydney Opera House for 24years!!!!

Kathryn Gable writes - It was the cultural hub of Brisbane, I saw my first ballet performance there. My mother never missed an opening night of a play - gowned and gloved.. A GREAT LOSS. Nothing graceful, or indeed welcoming, about the new “super venues”.

Greg Pam Harvey writes - Have great memories of this place of when I was with the Qld Opera Company singing my heart out and meeting great talented singers. It was here I had the privilege of doing the opera Norma with Dame Joan Sutherland. Great memories.

Terry Rout writes - Worked backstage at the Maj from 1975 through to around 1980 - very disappointed when it closed! Great theatre!
