Queensland Performing Arts Museum writes - His Majesty’s changed to Her Majesty’s during the mid 1950s. In its final form, the theatre could accommodate 1,387; 865 in the stalls and the remainder in the single dress circle. The stage, which still had a small rake of I' in 36' [.31m in 10.97m], was 12.8m deep, with a proscenium opening of 9.8m wide by Sm high. The site was purchased from its original owners, the Hart family, by the AMP Society in 1973, with the promise of including a new theatre when the site was redeveloped.
It was sold by AMP to another developer in 1980 and the final show at Her Majesty’s was Evita in 1983. The theatre closed with a gala concert on October 16, 1983.
The building was demolished as part of the Wintergarden re-development. An attempt was made to preserve the facade of the building, but this was unsuccessful.
