The Palace Theater on West Main Street is not the same Poli theater on East Main Street. The Palace Theater was a beautiful huge theater with amber chandeliers, and burgundy carpeted floors. It fell victim to Redevelopment. Redevelopment put the highway through three parks…City Park, Brookside Park and Hubbard Park. It was the downfall of all of downtown and the three parks. The gaping hole left from the tearing down of the beautiful Palace Theater is a terrible reminder of “Progress” …the Palace theater had a beautiful entrance with walls filled with upcoming movies. A long walk to the ticket booth manned by a uniformed employee. The snack bar was on the left and the smell of popcorn was wonderful. U then took your ticket to the bottom of the carpeted stairway to the uniformed ushure who tore it in half, return the half to you and dropping the other half into the large container. You then assented the carpeted stairway to the theater….the restrooms were on the left with a water fountain dispersing ice cold water. The screen was to the right with a beautiful carved wooden railing before the rows of seats started…there were amber chandeliers lining both sides of the theater and small balconies. This was a magnificent Theater…the gaping hole is the legacy of redevelopment.
