When it was sold by Joe Koewler about 1969 to local promoter Larry Aiken, the Columbia was refurbished and became the CineWest for a while, playing unusual first-run films and some soft-core porn. When that effort failed, Aiken turned it into a very popular nightclub - the Beer Garden.
