The Coliseum Theatre was built and opened in 1920, and is still open to this day. The theatre originally seated about 900 in orchestra and balcony levels. The Colonial Revival style theatre, with a multitude of columns, shows mostly Indian (Tamil and Hindi dialects of the Indian language). It was privately owned by a doctor, and has been gazetted by the government to be preserved.

It was twinned in November 2012 and is now operated by the Lotus Five Star chain as the Coliseum Cinemas.
