Carmike’s New Smyrna Lux 12 opened on March 13, 2015. The theater, formerly operated by Epic Theatres as the Beacon 12, was completely remodeled with new seats, screens and projectors.

The theater was originally opened by Theater Management, Inc. as the Beacon 8 on November 17, 1995 and closed in April 2014. According to the Dayton Beach New-Journal, the lease was then taken over by Digiplex Destinations, which was bought by Carmike Cinemas in August of 2014. It was taken over by AMC in January 2017.

Carmike noted that the 12-screen theatre seats over 1,200 with tiered level seating and high-back electric reclining luxury seats. The auditoriums are equipped with large, wall-to-wall screens, DLP DIGITAL projection and surround sound. “Carmike’s customized systems are tuned to a 7.1 speaker array with 16 channels, upgradeable to 11.1 surround sound. This QSC digital audio system is a true revolution in sound technology, with digital audio processing supported by quad-amplified, 4-way speakers, and 21-inch subwoofers".

The Beacon 8 Theatres, initially launched by Theatre Management, Inc. on November 17th, 1995, boasted 8 screens. Later, it expanded to 12 screens, complete with stadium seating in the 4 new screens on November 5th, 1999. However, its curtains fell in April 2014.

But wait! The story didn’t end there. Digiplex Destinations stepped in and breathed new life into the theater, rebranding it as the Lux 12. Then, on March 13th, 2015, Carmike Cinemas took the stage.

And the final act? In 2016, AMC Theatres seized the spotlight, renaming it the AMC New Smyrna 12 in April 2017. (rewritten by AI)
