Phoenixville, PA’s Historic Colonial Theatre Begins ‘Bank on the Arts’ Expansion Campaign
The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA, which gained cultural significance when it appeared in the 1958 Steve McQueen movie The Blob, started a new chapter in its storied history last week, when the Association for the Colonial Theatre (ACT), a non-profit organization that operates the local landmark, held the groundbreaking ceremony for their ‘Bank on the Arts’ project.

Historic Palace Theatre In Greensburg, PA is Celebrating 90 Years
The grand old Palace Theatre in Greensburg, PA is getting a touch-up to celebrate its 90th anniversary.
Mike Langer, of the Westmoreland Community Trust, has helped raised more than $10 million to keep it open.
“We had over 75,000 people come in the last year, had over 113 shows, 40-some special events,” he says. “When you put that many people through a building that was built in 1926, you can imagine there’s going to be some wear and tear.”

Boston’s Historic Colonial To Remain A Theater
The Colonial Theatre will not be converted into a dining hall after all, Emerson College President Lee Pelton announced Thursday. Instead, the college will renovate three of its buildings to expand campus dining and social spaces and potentially house a small rehearsal and performance stage.

Covellite Theatre Owners Hope to Revive Historic Building
The Covellite Theatre in Uptown Butte, Montana has been vacant since 2007. But thanks to some local entrepreneurs, Butte residents will again be able to watch performances in the historic structure.
Brett Berry, Ed Lewalk and Matt Frey, who all live in Butte, purchased the Covellite in October and hope to have the theater up and running by summer.

Inside Historic Havana Movie Theaters
Cuba is enjoying a rush of tourism since President Obama announced that travel and economic restrictions against the island would come crumbling down like the Berlin Wall.
Well, most of those restrictions are still in place more than a year later, but that hasn’t stopped the surge of curious gringos. If you happen to find yourself on a charter flight to the tiny Jose Marti International Airport, might I suggest you find some time away from Havana Vieja and mojitos to take in a movie in one of the country’s historic cinemas.
