Drive-By Cinema hits San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA — The Pacific Arts Movement, formerly the San Diego Asian Film Foundation, has been turning heads lately with its Drive-By Cinema. They basically rented a U-Haul truck and take it around to abandoned locations to show cult classics and short films.

Senator Theatre restoration update
BALTIMORE, MD — The Senator Theatre is coming along nicely and it should come back better than ever. Murals that have been covered in decades of smoke will be revealed and the theatre will even be getting new seats.

Puff-Back closes Hampton Arts Movie theater until Spring
WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — A recent puff-back has the Hampton Arts Cinema closed for a few months. There is no report of any damage to the actual auditorium but it seems like they require significant improvements to the building’s infrastructure.

Popping it, properly
SANTA CRUZ, CA — The local chain Nickelodeon is taking things one step further in the health game by now offering organic popcorn. Patrons are responding very positively and they’re even selling it in recyclable bags.

Club Centrum opens at former movie theater
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — While the second floor has hosted comedy shows for the past two years, the main auditorium of the former Centrum Cinema is now a dance club. The already popular club has top DJ’s and what they call the “largest video screen in the state.”

Fort Lee theater and museum to honor acting legend
FORT LEE, NJ — A new movie theater in Fort Lee is paying homage to the city’s role in the early days of film. The Barrymore will be part-art house and part-museum. The city’s first movie theater in over 20 years will even stand on the site of John Barrymore’s start as an actor, the former Buckheister’s Hotel.

Looking back at Miami movie palaces
MIAMI, FL — In honor of Oscar season, the Miami Herald recounted the days when its cinemas were at the very heart of the area. They remember glamorous movie premieres at the Lincoln and how everyone experienced “Jaws” for the first time at the Miracle Theatre.
