Cinema Treasures is seeking a few volunteers

    Greetings, everyone.

We’re looking for a few volunteers to help us improve the accuracy of our theater addresses.

The majority of our listings have correct addresses. But there are some that do not. Sometimes, an address has the wrong number, street name, or direction… and we need to correct those mistakes.

This job is best suited for someone who enjoys being a sleuth and hunting down the most accurate address for a movie theater. You should also be comfortable using various tools of the web (Google, Google Maps, Google Earth, etc.). Ideally, you’d also have 5 – 10 hours a week you could dedicate to this task.

This is a volunteer position, and you will receive credit on our Volunteers page. And if things go well, there’s a possibility that we might bring you on as one of our theater editors.

If you’re interested, please contact us.

    Thanks for your help,
    Patrick and Ross

  • San Angelo to sell 40 acres, get drive-in theater

SAN ANGELO, TX — The wheels are in motion for San Angelo to get a drive-in.

The city council Tuesday approved the sale of 40 acres in the city’s industrial park – at U.S. Highways 67 and 277, and Loop 306 in northeast San Angelo – to Lamesa Enterprises. The company wants to develop a three-screen drive-in theater there.

According to the agreement, the company will pay $8,000 an acre for the land. In turn, the city will build a 3,300-foot sewer line to the property and let the company drill a water well for the business.

  • Mekala Theatre faces demolition

CHENNAI, INDIA — A local favorite for generations, the Mekala Theatre has closed and might be torn down.

Movie buffs are unlikely to cheer as the curtains have finally come down at the Mekala theatre. For decades, it was a popular theatre
for residents in Purasawalkam and Kilpauk.

“I remember it being around even in 1958. Mekala is one of the oldest theatres,” said Film News' Anandhan. “It used to screen MGR films, and families used to throng the place. It had stopped screening films couple of years ago and was not listed as a theatre. It is sad that so many theatres are coming under the bulldozers,” he added.

  • Theater photography project

I’m a professional photographer with an assignment to photograph a few classic theaters. The results will be displayed as very large prints in the lobby of the Lynwood Theater on Bainbridge Island, WA. I’m looking for suggestions of theaters to photograph in the Washington/Oregon area that would be most photogenic. They could also be former theaters now functioning as other businesses, or closed but intact, large or small.

  • Art-house theater weathers storms, recession

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Celebrating ten years in service, the Cinema Paridiso is still going strong

In the 10 years of its existence, Fort Lauderdale Is your Fort Lauderdale restaurant clean? – Click Here.’s Cinema Paradiso has seen plenty of noise and bustle. It’s hosted fundraisers, barbecues and classic car shows; motorcycle rallies, rock festivals and Halloween shindigs.

But Broward County Click here for restaurant inspection reports’s lone art-house cinema is quiet as a church on most weekday mornings —– appropriate for a place that used to be one. On one morning last week, the lights are dim and the air conditioning is scant. The theater is empty except for Hal Axler, the theater’s programming director and the executive director of the Broward County Film Society. Sitting alone in the spacious second-floor office, he fields all the phone calls and even helps to unpack Bud Light cases from a hand truck during a morning delivery.

  • Motion-enhanced seats coming to a theater near you

Taking a cue from the theater developments of the 1950’s, motion-enhanced seats are being tested out.

Heading to the movies just became a more “moving” experience, thanks to new motion-activated theater seats available for theatergoers, D-BOX Technologies announced today. • Wind lights up Ill. drive-in

GIBSON CITY, IL — Want to save some money in today’s economy running your theater? How about operating your theater on wind like the Harvest Moon.?

When its season opened two weekends ago, the Harvest Moon blew in with the wind literally as the world’s first and only turbine-powered movie theater.

“Indoor or out,” said Onarga-based owner Mike Harroun, who has operated the twin-screen drive-in since 1989.

The only similar venue, he said, is the Color House Theatre, a live children’s stage in Merton Abby Mills, England.
