    Where to see Indiana Jones?

IJ #4 we all know is to open next month – May 22 if a Thursday on my calendar. Maybe if our timing isn’t already lost, we at Cinema Treasures might express our preferences now as to where we’d like it to open in our areas, and it could yet make some difference to the people at Paramount.

After all who else besides us knows all our operating cinemas, and what each has to offer, better than we do? We’re the experts!

  • Salvaged RCA cinema equipment

I’ve just salavged two kalee model 12s and random rca speakers, amplifiers, etc. from my local cinema which is being torn down and would like some help trying to get more info on the stuff. Maybe I could get some info on tracking some parts for the projectors. The cinema is from the 1930’s so I am assuming that’s the age of the equipment. The kalee projectors I think are from the early 40’s.

Thanks for any help, links or photos.

Concert promoters in tug-of-war over Uptown

CHICAGO, IL — In Sunday’s Chicago Sun-Times, music writer Jim Derogatis reports on the battle that both Live Nation and local promoter Jam Productions are waging over who gets to develop and open the long-shuttered Uptown Theatre as a live concert venue.

A redeveloped Uptown Theatre is seen by many, including 48th Ward Ald. Mary Ann Smith, as the key that finally could turn Uptown from a “war zone” into a thriving entertainment district — the only one in the city where live music is the main attraction.

Now the theater itself has become what may be the bloodiest battleground yet in Chicago’s long-raging war between two powerful concert promoters: national giant Live Nation and Chicago-based Jam Productions. And the fight is just heating up.

  • SVA acquires Chelsea West

NEW YORK, NY — A bright future may be in store for the Chelsea West Cinemas. New York’s School of Visual Arts is renovating it to serve as a repertory house.

One of the boldest moves in Gotham exhibition this decade is taking shape along a quiet stretch of West 23rd Street.

The Clearview Chelsea West Cinemas, a somewhat unlikely center of gravity for the film biz in recent years, has been acquired by the School of Visual Arts. The school, which signed a 26-year lease to operate the site, is renaming it the Visual Arts Theater and renovating inside and out under the guidance of noted designer Milton Glaser.

  • Odeon Oldham Lancs projectionist

OLDHAM, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND — Can anyone put some light on the subject I am inquiring about?

I am trying to trace the where abouts of the relatives of Charles Hunt who was a projectionist at the Odeon Cinema Oldham. I do not know how long he worked at the cinema but I am looking specifically at 1947/48. My mother in-law Mary Agnew also worked there at the same time as an usherette.
