Regal Fenway closed as of today, according to Regal’s website (as well as someone who got an email canceling his tickets for today)
Go by this place all of the time so kind of sad it’s closing but also the AMC shows so much more stuff that I never even consider seeing things there.
At the same time that this may be closing, Alamo Drafthouse plans to reopen the Icon Showplace cinema in the Seaport, and AMC plans to reopen the Arclight cinema at North Station.
This place lost its RPX house in 2019.
The venue has made the latest Regal closure list; no firm closing date is associated with that.

Late last fall, I was present at both showings of the 60th Anniversary screenings of the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story at the Regal Cinema Fenway here in Boston, MA, both with friends, and solo. The print was absolutely pristine, without a scratch or any other flaw anywhere on it, and the soundtrack was totally stellar, as well. My friends and I had a stellar evening! This is a movie that I truly savor and enjoy seeing both with or without others, especially because I end up sharing this special experience with other people, whether I know them or not, plus the old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story is my all time favorite movie, hands down.
Please update, 808 seats and 11 screens and rename Regal Fenway 11 and the two monster screens are not part of the movie theatre anymore. Only the 11 screens that got recliners a couple of years ago is still open. The two big houses wich one included RPX was given back to the landlord when the new owners are building new property. The Boston Globe article is https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/01/06/business/developer-buying-fenways-landmark-center-152b-deal/
It’s a shame the two best auditoriums with big screen are gone. Photos in the photo section. Guess that the reason recliners never were installed in theatres 12 and 13
Construction has started on a large new theater very close to the Regal Fenway. It’s the “MGM Music Hall”; will be operated by Live Nation and is very close to the Fenway Park Red Sox stadium. They give a capacity of “5400” but I don’t know if that’s 5400 seats or a combination of seats in the two large balconies plus standing spaces on the main floor. Live Nation also has the big new Oakdale Theatre on the outskirts of Wallingford CT.
The two largest screens 12 and 13 are not reserved seating. THE RPX theatre did not get the Regal Buttkicking Recliners.
This opened on June 23rd, 2000. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
I saw The Big Short here two days ago and can’t say enough about the brand new black leather luxury recliners. It’s an understatement to say they are comfortable. The auditoriums seem to have had some nice, albeit probably minor, renovations. Until recently I came here infrequently, even though it’s literally less than a mile from my house, but I think that will change.
Oh, no! Really? I think that the reason that rodents end up in movie theatres is because people drop their food on the floor, which attracts them. I did see the 70th Anniversary screening of The Wizard of Oz in the Fenway Cinema a couple of years ago, and it was quite good.
I’ve read that the theatre has been getting a little run down lately. Some people have even spotted rodents.
A small fire in the Regal Fenway a couple of days ago resulted in the sprinklers activating. Then no one could figure out how to turn them off. There was flooding and water damage to the complex which houses the cinema.
Now that the Circle Cinemas have closed, this is one of only two remaining movie theatres within Boston city limits. (The other one is AMC Loews Boston Common.)
I don’t know if here are any promotions unique to this Regal Theater but Regal offers (on its website) two types of “VIP Tickets”. The cheaper one is valid after a film’s opening period (usually about two weeks) and the more expensive one is valid anytime. These tickets are also available through AAA and possibly through other sources such as those “Entertainment” books.
I know that this is Regal, that is why I am asking if anyone knows any promotions or discounts on this theater.
This is not a Showcase theatre, it is Regal.
Does anyone here know if there is a Cheap/Matinee day on this theater? Or any promotions? In Worcester Big Y Supermarkets have a thing that you can buy tickets for 7 something and use them when ever you want on Showcase and Cinema de Lux. (http://www.bigy.com/coins/coins_showcase_cinemas.php)
In the Boston Herald of January 14, 2008 there is a review written by Jed Gottlieb of the live feed from the Metropolitan Opera House in NY of Verdi’s “Macbeth” which was presented in one of the auditoriums at the Regal Fenway at 130PM on Sat. Jan. 12th. Tickets were $22 and the show sold out in advance so that there were hopeful ticket-buyers hanging out in front, just like at live events. Gottlieb liked the performance but didn’t care for the intermission camera-work showing stagehands changing the sets; he thought that it worked against the make-believe. There were subtitles in English. The next performance at the Fenway will be on Feb. 16. The shows are live-via-satellite.
Sometime in the fall of 2007, they finally took down the “AMC” sign out front and replaced it with a “REGAL” sign.
For all the doom and gloom in this thread, I can report I have seen many movies at the Fenway, and the experience has been nothing but good. Theaters 12 and 13 are among the biggest screens I have ever seen, and the picture and sound are consistently good. YES, the pre-show commercials are loud and annoying, but just turn to your date and ignore them if you can. The bathrooms are plentiful and they have paper towels!
Just wanted to let everyone know that our review of the Regal Fenway 13 is now up on our website. It’s the first in a series of reviews focusing on Boston-area theaters we’ve never been to before. We found it to be a pleasant and enjoyable experience, although the fact that the giant AMC sign is still up nearly a year after Regal took over was interesting…

Just wanted to let everyone know that our review of the Regal Fenway 13 is up on our website, part of our Summer Tour to Boston-area theaters we’ve never visited before. We found it to be a rather pleasant and accomodating place. Although I was a bit surprised to see that the giant AMC signage is STILL in place nearly a year after Regal took over…

Nope, still getting all the 1st runs (for the most part). Actually got quite a few for ‘300’ this past weekend.. outgrossed the Commons apparently. :-P
Any news on how this is doing since Regal took over? Are they getting any of the good pictures or is AMC hogging them all over at the Boston Commons?
