bg,you have some memory. I think it was at the N.M. theatre. I went to that deli and that’s the only sandwich I would order. I did work at the Bar harbor theatre also. What is your last name?
Hi Zip, I sure do remember Bernie and Clara at the the Pizza place. I was just there this past December, different name but still a pizza place. The only original stores are, pizza, bakery, chinese which moved into were Stan’s coffee shop was. Bernie moved to Florida shortly after I did in the early 70’s.good to hear from you. It’s funny I believe I went to see you at a different theater and we had lunch in the projection booth and you had me try a roast beef sandwich with mayo and let.tom.never had it with mayo before. At least I think it was you. All seems like yesterday. .
Hi Zep. I worked there from 67 to 71 so we must have worked there togeth er at some point. Yes Carol Strutt and Kathy and her sister TC were great…do you know what ever happened to any of these nice people. I also wored at the pizza place few doors down. Hi BG…..worked at the n.m.theatre in ‘70 and'72. Hired after previous staff were fired. Cool working with Mrs. Strutt and Kathy/TC. Kelly’s Heroes was the first movie I worked

I remember some of the names you mention in your post.
I liked working at the N.Massapequa because it was very near my house. (I graduated from Seaford HS)
Norman Slotnick was the regular projectionist at the N. Massapequa for many years. I used to fill in for him sometimes on his nights off or when he was was on vacation.
After the theater closed he wound up over at the AIT Bethpage and eventually ended up working a several of the really big “A List” theaters on Long Island. I think his last assignment was at the UA Syossett.
I spent most of 1970’s working at the UA Farmingdale, after “the union” gave it to me as my ‘permanent’ projection assignment.

HELLO EDinNY., I also worked there from 1967 to 1971. We knew each oher, Carol Srrutt was the manager then and before her Mr Stiffler(I know my spelling is wrong of his last name).And Mr Rosen was the dist.mgr. And Teecie and her sister Kathy was the cashier and candy counter person. Time sure has gone fast. Hope your well. Barry.
I occasionally worked at this theater as a projectionist between appx 1968 & 1971.
Poster EdinNY mentioned seeing “Yellow Submarine” there. I remember running that movie there. Perhaps he was at one of ‘my’ shows!
Yes, I remember the dance studio too. It was located on the 2nd floor, right above the theater lobby. There was one night a week that they gave tap-dancing lessons, and it would create quite a din in the lobby below.
There was also one night a week that they held ‘judo’ classes, and I remember I could hear loud “UGH!’s” and the sound of people being thrown to the floor and against the wall, since the studio was right on the other side of the wall from the projection room.
EdinNY also mentioned them giving away door prizes. Yes- – they were doing this for awhile when AIT ran the place to try to bring in more mid-week business when things were slow. I remember this because I was one of the people who would sometimes have to go up on the stage to pick the winning number out of the fishbowl full of tickets.
When the theatre closed, some sort of “home improvement” store moved into the space that had formerly been occupied by the auditorium. It was sort of a mini ‘home deopt’ type of place, but I don’t remember the name. That’s where the Marshalls store is now.
This is also the same shopping center where several people were killed in 1996 after a large accumulation of snow & ice after a big winter storm caused the roof to collapse.
I still have a couple of posters & other artifacts from the old AIT North Massapequa. I just posted a picture on the ‘picture page’ – Checkitout!
I have vivid memories of this theater form the late 60’s/early 70’s. Saw Yellow Submarine and Tales from the Crypt there. It was close enough to where I lived to ride my bike. The Pequa becamse the spot to go as I got older. I seem to remember it was an old fashioned type theater with a stage and everything. I also vaguely remember door prizes… There was a Grant’s store right next to it, to the left as you looked at it and I think a dance studio to the right as another poster said. It is a Marshalls now.
Does any one no where the mgr.CARROL STRUTT IS TODAY, SHE WAS THERE IN THE LATE 60’S AND 70’S, I WORKED THERE THEN.
I went back to the site today, in the daylight, to reaffirm my original May 1st comment that it was at the corner of the shopping center. It was; the eastern corner. However, subsequently, a cinder block addition as been added obliterating all but the exit door, by the screen, of the original exterior.

This theatre was located in an L shaped shopping center on Jerusalem Avenue at the intersection of Hickville Road (the northwest corner). The theatre and the adjacent stores on the stretch of the shopping center running parallel to Jerusalem Avenue are now incorporated in a large Marshalls.
