It’s very sad they didn’t make it at this location, was in Florida at their first CMX dine in location, food was excellent, a little pricey and the bargain matinee only $9. for a movie

theatre closed March 17, 2020 when the city ordered theatres shutdown. When CMX went into chapter 11, they won’t be opening this location.

Is the name CMX short for anything?

Not to go too far off-topic, Al, but I remember the Manhattan Twin’s era of screening primarily genre films and move-overs. Was it considered a less-than-ideal theatre in general?

I just looked in the photo section and see that adult admission is $25.

Unbelievable! Who in the world would pay such a steep admission price when there are so many other options…?

“SCENT OF A WOMAN” was supposed to open on both screens at the Manhattan Twin but was moved here at the last minute when the director complained about that theatre’s presentation.

Just uploaded two Universal exclusive engagements at this location. Unfortunately, this never became a popular locations for exclusive showings due to its location. A long walk to the subway.

The theatre is a dine in location. The only thing you must arrive 30 minutes for a meal, the waiters don’t serve during the film. As for the theatre, the restrooms are now on the same level as the auditoriums. Just like in the Cineplex Odeon days, theatres 1 and 2 downstairs and 3 and 4 on level 3 and 5 and 6 on level 6.

To make room for the restrooms to be on the same level, the auditoriums lost space. The theatres are stadium seating and the screen 1 size is worst now. They charge a whopping $25. to see a movie on the weekends.

This now includes a dining/cocktails venue CMX Cinebistro. The auditorium itself has been described as “an all black space that looks like a college campus’s perfunctory performing-arts center.” Numerous reviews and photos can be found here

Here is the text of the NY Post article:

Headline: Luxury multiplex will dress up drab 62nd Street corner

Author: Steve Cuozzo

Text: It’s a Hollywood ending for the B-movie corner of First Avenue and East 62nd Street.

Mexico City-based Cinemex, the world’s sixth-largest movie theater chain, will launch a luxury multiplex at Edison Properties’ 400 E. 62nd St., also known as 1124 First Ave., The Post has learned. It will be the first in the city for Cinemex, which has nearly 300 theaters in Mexico.

The just-signed, 50,000 square-foot lease on six floors is on the site of a former Clearview multiplex, which closed in 2013. The space on the Upper East Side’s southeastern fringe has been vacant ever since. With no stores at the southeast corner of First Avenue and 62nd Street — only a Manhattan Mini Storage outpost — the sidewalk can be lonely even in the daytime.

But that’s about to change — construction of the new multiplex is to begin soon.

We reported last February that Cinemex was among movie theater operators interested in the lower levels of 28 Liberty St., the downtown skyscraper previously known as Chase Plaza. The company has been scouting other Manhattan locations as well.

Terms of the East Side deal were not immediately available. CBRE senior VP Michael Kadosh and associate Jesse Wolff represented the landlord and Newmark Grubb Knight Frank’s Jeffrey Roseman and Marc Frankel repped Cinemex.

The new Cinemex is expected to provide a luxury movie-going experience complete with reserved, plush seats and high-end food service. CBRE’s Kadosh said, “With reserved seating and dining, Cinemex means the days of waiting on a long line to get into a movie on the Upper East Side are over.”

News of the opening may hearten film-lovers who still enjoy seeing new releases in a full-scale theater. The city has lost numerous screens in the past few years, including Midtown’s legendary Ziegfeld, which closed earlier this year.

The seventh screen was carved out of the ground level retail space after Cineplex Odeon had trouble leasing it out to anyone else.
