A chronology of Boise’s 70mm presentations history has recently been published. The Egyptian gets some mentions in the piece.

When did 70mm projection get installed here? Was 70mm in place during the 1960s under the Ada name, or was it installed during a later renovation under the Egyptian name?

This was renamed Ada on December 5th, 1936. Grand opening ad posted.

Boxoffice, June 11, 1979: “Plitt Theatres has announced the opening of the Egyptian Theatre in Boise, Idaho. Formerly known as the Ada, the theatre has been renovated and equipped with new Dolby stereo sound and has been re-seated with rocker type chairs. Work is continuing on the 830 seat theatre; a new marquee front are to be completed shortly.”

Just to clarify it opened as the Egyptian, in what appears to be August 1926. The Ada name was in the `50s. Images added.

Hmm; I just tried searching under “Ada”, “Boise, ID,” and “Egyptian” and all three yielded this theater in the results. I wonder why it does not work for you.

Bway: I saw the same show on the Travel Channel and found it very fascinating! Supposedly, the ghost’s name is Joe and he died of a heart attack some 50 years ago while walking up the steps to the projection room as he was the resident projectionist then! Paranormal folks came to the theatre and after telling the owners the ghost’s name was Joe they then learned the name of the projectionist….coincidence?

There was a great feature of the Egyptian on the Travel Channel last night, showing much of the theater. Supposedly, the place is haunted, and that was the feature.

The Egyptian can be seen in this photo circa 1950s:

I wonder if he got replaced by an automated ghost.

Ghost Stories on the Travel Station just showed a piece tonight on this theatre. Supposedly it is haunted by a former projectionist named Joe, He hangs out mostly in the projection booth or in the upper balcony last row last seats.

Wow…

it is sad that this thread which is supposed to be dedicated to the Egyptian theatre has been “Closed/Demolished”

This is a great site to discuss theatres. Each theatre has its own link and page.

Shame on you peopel for littering it up.. You are as bad as those that tear down theatres for drug stores.

Leave the bickering and off topci comments elsewhere!

And the Eyptian last time I was there about 3 years ago had assigned seating.
