The Canton Palace is one of the finest theatres in both Ohio and the United States. The city of Canton and Stark County is very proud. Was personally involved in restoring the wonderful “Kilgen” pipe organ still played during performances.

I had forgotten that the infamous wrecking ball was close to being in this theatre’s past. Thank goodness it is still with us though amazed at the cost to heat such a building in today’s economy. That is why it is so important to have theatre fundraisers, etc.
What a wonderful-looking theatre! Glad to hear/read about this theatre’s fund-raising/restoration opening, and that it wqs saved from the wrecking ball. All the best of luck to the theatre staff, and the City of Canton, Ohio.
ken mc: Thank you for posting the above information about this theatre and its needs in the 21st century. I hope and urge anyone in or near the Canton OH area to consider attending their fundraiser event, “An Affair to Remember” fundraiser which will help support the Palace. As I’ve mentioned before…I’ve seen this theatre from top to bottom and it is an Eberson beauty still standing proud on Market Street in downtown Canton.

Lost: I must have seen this organ on the stage in front of a red curtain so this must be the mysterious white organ that I remember seeing in a theatre somewhere and that somewhere was the Palace in Canton Ohio!
Lost: No, unfortunately not. There was a reason, but I don’t recall at the moment why. I do recall seeing this theatre from top to bottom though.
Lost: As you may recall, I have toured this beautiful theatre and met the manager, Rob who is “CantonPalaceTech”.
Unfortunately, Forbes magazine is calling Canton one of America’s ten fastest-dying cities. But they did use this nice picture of the Palace in their slide show:

I’ve toured this Eberson atmospheric theatre! Very nice!
When I viewed the photo I read the “rather petite, but lovely” comment. This theatre is not petite as I have been there and was given a complete tour by Rob.
I don’t know much about “the fist”, but was shown one at this theatre when the manager took my husband and I on a tour which included the basement where, in a box, were some of the original birds that once “flew” in the atmospheric auditorium.
Would love to see an interior photo of the famous Eberson “fist”.

MANAGER OF PARK HAS HEADED THEATERS FOR LAST 13 YEARS
Four men will take major roles in the “Hollywood Premier” opening of Mansfield’s new Park theater on South Park street. Brought here from Canton by Interstate Theaters, Inc., operators of the new theater, Ralph H. Shaffer will be manager of the Park theater. Shaffer until recently was manager of the Palace theater in Canton, another theater owned by the Interstate company. He was transferred here to take charge of the new show. Shaffer comes to Mansfield with 13 years of experience in the theater business. He formerly managed theaters in Washington and Charleroi, Pa, and Salem, East Liverpool, Portsmouth and Canton.
I’m not a resident of Ohio nor of Canton and so the Palace being connected to the Eberson name and the interior being atmospheric did interest me. So last summer I went to see it for myself and I met with the manager of the theatre who is Cinema Treasures member, “CantonPalaceTech”. Rob may be able to help you with your research involving the other theatres that were in Canton as I believe they have all been demolished except for the Palace.

There was a nickelodeon included with the other theatres. I removed it from the list as I was unsure if those type of theatres are acceptable.
Hello Patsy I enjoy finding theatres missing from this website. At times I can only find a theatre name. I put whatever I find in a comment. Perhaps the more advanced people like yourself on Cinema Treasures can contribute more details about these theatres.
I don’t have much personal knowledge in regards to theatres in Canton or Ohio, in general, but do enjoy passing along information that I am told about or read about. My neighbors are from Youngstown and they have passed along information about another theatre with the Palace name that WAS in their town along with their memories of the former Paramount Theatre in Youngstown. That theatre is supposedly being considered for restoration, but time will tell.
Sure thing. Take them all if you like. Any person that wants too can add these theatres. I will find more and bring them back here. Perhaps Patsy would enjoy adding a theatre.
