This theatre should now be set to Demolished. A recent Google street view from November 2021 shows only the steel framework of the Humber now left.
As noted in the link above, the now-closed Humber is to be demolished to make way for yet another condominium project.
When I was a schoolboy, we used to go to the Humber or the Runnymede for our Saturday afternoon entertainment—much to the relief of our mothers. The Humber was closest to us and it had an air of elegance fitting for the early ‘50s. The uniformed ushers and the air conditioning and the plush carpeting and air of dignity subtly hinted that we should be on our best behaviour.
Odeon had a Birthday Club and once a year, I’d receive a pass for 2(!) and free popcorn and soft drink. I believe I aged out at twelve.
Then, presumably, the name is other than Humber Cinema.
The above listing should be adjusted to reflect that there are now four screens operating at the Humber.

Who actually manages (or owns) the place? Who paid for the recent renovations? Have they installed digital projection equipment? I hate to think of what it costs to run this place: heat, taxes, hydro, staff, upkeep, advertising, film or DCP rental, etc. It boggles the mind.

Let me clear this up. I visited the Humber Cinemas last week and it is now under new management. They now have 4 screens up and running. The theatre was twinned creating two screens; the balcony is one and the main level (orchestra level) is the second. The left and right rear sections of the main level (orchestra level) have been converted into small screening rooms. To do this they removed the seats, built sound proof walls, and added doors to access these rooms from the outside lobby. The place has been completely renovated and looks great. The newspaper ads and web site now list 3 films showing daily, I wonder where the 3rd screen is? They did mention soon to be 4 screens but I haven’t heard how they further divided the cinemas.
This is confusing. I help with this site in regard to changing Introductions, whether theaters open, closed, etc. From movie listings online, 2 movies are playing so both auditoriums are open? former balcony and former main floor? Does the main floor have the original size screen that seems to be in those BW photos? That main floor has a huge seating capacity?

So bizarre. The older Facebook page had this posted today (July 17th): “The Humber Cinema is no longer operated by the Kingsway Theatre – the owner(landlord) – Claude Bitton – of the Humber has hijacked our business and locked us out of the building.The Humber Cinema was renovated by the Kingsway Theatre and paid for by our corporation.”
Apparently the Humber is STILL open after all. If you look at their Facebook page the closing notices were a hoax, so they have a new web site and facebook page. I don’t know who owns it anymore or who runs it now but glad to know it is open after all.
Also four screens? There was that rumour for the downstairs theatre was going to be split into 3 but would have thought if that was the plan wouldnt you have done it in the first place rather than spending all the ecess money into just the restoration?
The rumours from the previous closure were surrounding rent issues with the building owners (maybe too much of it went into the renos too fast?) And the fact that it reopened suggested all of that issue had been resolved I would have thought. But the fact it was the second time in just over a year and oddly enough pretty close to the time the first instance happened makes me kinda curious….
What the heck goes on with this place? Recently it has said on their website soon to be 4 screens and now it’s closed? Why can’t this place run like the Davis and Logan in Chicago and be the local cinema for Bloor West village. I’ve never understood what the problem is here.
As of July 14th. 2012, the Humber is now closed again. No details yet as to why.
Yeah I noticed in the adds at least the first week or two and the last few that its just one title again. Maybe building up the cash to finish downstairs?
I am hopeful that the Humber can get the big downstairs theatre going with good equipment. This place has so much potential if done right.

Now makes sense for the closure, just to finish with the downstair renos before the Xmas rush. Looking forward to see the finished product.
Great news indeed! Curious to see the renovations that were performed during the hiatus. Any hints what we can expect?? Will there by fountain drinks available?
