Actually, Fandango does know the difference between the two.
For example, it shows IMAX Laser on the TCL Chinese Theatres page – https://i.imgur.com/iwcGotY.png
This is what it shows for Lincoln Square – https://i.imgur.com/C5jegdM.png
I’m just glad to know it’s a mistake on Fandango’s part and not that they’re back to showing movies with those crappy digital projectors. They didn’t do that giant screen justice. You can try to defend them all you want, but I’m not going to change my mind on them. No offense.
I’m sure you’re talking about Eileen Campbell, cetrata. She never gives a definitive answer to people who ask her about Lincoln Square getting laser. She’s been giving them the same answer for months now. LS13 made the worst decision in removing that projector so fast. It’s like they couldn’t wait to. They must have forgotten about directors like Christopher Nolan who prefers to show his films on IMAX 70mm.
What if LS13 just wasn’t chosen for TFA in 70mm? It seems like only science museums and Domes were chosen for it. Not regular theaters. I’d like to know where exactly they dumped the 70mm film projector. Can’t they just get it back, if they had to?
Yup, that’s what I figured as well. They most likely couldn’t get the permits in time…again. I don’t know why that’s taking so long. The guy from Guest Services said he was checking with the theater team before he said it. So it couldn’t have been a prediction by him.
BvS was filmed with IMAX cameras, which is why I care about this so much. I want to see it the way it’s meant to be seen. Not in LIEMAX like TFA. I’ve never seen an IMAX movie in its full 1.43 aspect ratio.
lol guys, it looks like LS13 will be showing Deadpool in IMAX after all. The guy from AMC Guest Services clearly said that the IMAX auditorium was going to be under construction during that time. I don’t know what happened. This is just funny at this point. It doesn’t look good for BvS.
I still think the movie will look better in Dolby Cinema. It’s just gonna be a rectangle in the middle of the IMAX screen @ LS13. But it still makes me curious to go check it out. It’s that huge screen, I tell ya.
I’m getting worried. I checked Fandango, and it looks like TFA will be playing in IMAX at LS13 past January. That’s longer than the 1 month it was supposed to be on IMAX for. For them to finish renovations before March 25th would be a miracle. They haven’t even got started.
I really hope the Dolby Cinema @ AMC Prime NEVER gets infested with bed bugs. That is the only theater I’m willing to go to at Empire 25. Once LS13 has IMAX with laser, I won’t really need to go to any other IMAX theater. That will be the only true IMAX in NY anyway.
Let’s see if they’ll get it done in less than two months. I wonder if they also intend on changing the screen with a new one. That screen is freaking huge. It would take a lot of men to do it.
How big is the screen at Dolby Cinema AMC Prime? Is it a standard size screen or is it as big as a LieMAX screen?
I don’t think I have been to the Loews auditorium at Lincoln Square yet, but I keep hearing about it. It supposedly has the biggest screen at that theatre besides the IMAX one.
Now I’m trying to figure out which other IMAX theatre is the best option to watch Deadpool at. I was holding out for Lincoln Square thinking that they were going to add it on Fandango. Some guy who works for AMC Guest Services, pretty much confirmed it on Twitter that they’re not going to show Deadpool in IMAX at LS due to renovations. The question now is, will they get done before BvS comes out…
They are even showing The Force Awakens at Lincoln Square all the way to the 27th of this month. There’s no way they’ll install the laser projector in time for Deadpool. Great, crappy IMAX digital again.
moviebuff82: “Hidden cameras are great because they prevent movie goers from sneaking into another auditorium.”
Do you work for a movie theater or something? Even if the cameras don’t catch you, with reserved seating becoming more popular now, it’s impossible for people to sneak to other movies because those seats have already been taken by people online. You would just make yourself look like a fool by sneaking into other auditoriums in this day and age.
“The hidden cameras probably scan a code on the ticket.”
Lol yeah right. They don’t have something that sophisticated.
Then the IMAX auditorium is the only one with stadium seating. That explains why they don’t put ‘Stadium Seating’ as one of their theater amenities on the the Fandango website. I’m glad the Magic Johnson Harlem 9 theater is close to me. All of their screens have stadium seating. I’ll still go to the Lincoln Square theater for IMAX, though. They do have the biggest screen in NY after all.
I wish I could watch Interstellar in IMAX 2D 70mm at Lincoln Square, since I didn’t get the chance to in 2014, but I know that’s never gonna happen. We can’t all get what we want.
@alpinedownhiller By the time they install the laser projector, it will be too late. The Force Awakens will most likely be taken off IMAX by that time. I really hope it’s ready in time for Deadpool. I can’t wait to watch that one in IMAX 2D.
It’s because of people like you that they’re trying to get rid of film once and for all, to replace it with digital garbage just because it’s cheaper. Good thing we still have those directors who prefer film, unlike you.
@xbs2034 I’m so glad Deadpool will be in IMAX 2D, but I’m bummed out that BvS and Civil War will most likely be only in IMAX 3D at Lincoln Square, just like Star Wars. At least they will be in IMAX 3D with Laser. I really hope they install that Laser projector at Licoln Square before Deadpool comes out.
Spire is right. IMAX Laser can do 1.43:1 just like IMAX 70mm. I think Laser will take over film in the future. IMAX 70mm still has a higher resolution than Laser. This Laser stuff is an excuse to get rid of film projection once and for all.
Oh. Thanks for clearing that up. This 3D fad is just a ploy to overcharge people. Ever since Avatar came out, that’s when they decided to release every freaking movie in 3D, even if they weren’t shot in 3D. It was good for Avatar, but not for every single movie. This is why I like Christopher Nolan. He’s not a fan of this post-converted 3D crap either. He releases all his movies in 2D.

I have a question. Why is Fandango showing the old IMAX digital with dual projectors for Avengers: Endgame at this theater, instead of Laser?
Looks like mrwipe saw the new BvS trailer.

Thanks for answering, celboy. It seems like waterguy56 fell into a coma or something.

ridethectrain, why would you want fake 3D at Dolby Cinema AMC Prime? It’s fine the way it is. 2D is better.

Exactly, HowardBHaas. You nailed it on the head.

I knew you’d be the laser/digital apologist. Nothing yet looks better than 70mm film.
