Just passed by tonight, theater has reopened

Someone has been doing work on this theater in recent months. New tiling has been put down both inside and outside the lobby, and current movie posters have been installed inside the glass cases mounted on the main wall just past the entrance. The marquee also no longer says “For Sale”.

As of Feb. 2014 this theater is closed and for sale – a red sign on the front doors states that the building is unsafe for human occupancy … End of an era.

The Meridian Outer 6 was actually open in the 1990s, as it was one of my favorites when I lived in the Lansing area. Sorry to hear that it’s closed, I hope another theater company will take AMC’s place.

Saw many movies here over the years – Superman, Firebirds, Batman, The Crow, True Lies, Eraser, The Rocketeer – too many to name. It was one of the theaters of choice when I was a kid growing up in north Jersey. I do remember going to Blue Star in 1998 to see the new Godzilla film, but was told the projector wasn’t working – little did I know the place was about to close for good.

Pretty sure I saw “Battlestar Galactica” and “Throw Momma from the Train” here

Ah, that would do it, Justin. Nice little theater, though – not too many neighborhood cinemas like it left these days

Saw “Crimson Tide” and “Happy Gilmore” here – hard to believe it’s been gone so long now

Was vacationing back in Michigan when this one closed – not a pretty sight watching it being broken up, with pieces of chairs strewn about.

Saw more than a few movies here when I worked at Michigan State, including “Mortal Kombat”. A good place to go on a Saturday afternoon.

Place was packed for a matinee showing of “Fast Five” yesterday, and parking was a bit tough to find – on a Tuesday afternoon in early May, no less. The seven o'clock showing was sold out. A different movie-going experience from the AMC Clifton Commons, that’s for sure.

Still sitting there peacefully but empty, not even a sign announcing space available

Looks like the fitness center is finally up and running – the external makeover is so complete you wouldn’t ever guess there was once an eight-screen theater there

Hard to believe, but it’s now been exactly one year since the closing.

Theater opened in 1996, I remember the first film I saw here was “The Frighteners” with Michael J. Fox

Fun place, went to a lot of movies here while in college – the Ground Round used to be right next door, but it preceded the theater into retirement

Wow, they sure updated this theater’s status fast – it’s not even 24 hours since it shut down.

I’ll give the new Kerasotes cinema a try just to see what it’s like, although I will miss the Meadow 6 and the way it blended in with the rest of the plaza. The AMC Clifton Commons is just up the road, although Route 3 is a pain to navigate at peak times. I guess I can also trek the 15 miles or so to the AMC Wayne 14, whose original portion looks like the Meadow 6 – minus the mural, of course.

Wonder which old theater will fall by the wayside next.

Drove by today after attending my final film at the Secaucus sixplex – the old Loews Meadow 8 has been completely gutted open, although the exterior walls on the sides and back are still up

Saw my last film ever here today in “Surrogates” – was the ONLY person in Theater 5 and was easily outnumbered by the staff, who had already begun some minor breakdown of displays in the lobby. The auxiliary concessions stand in the middle of the theater main floor looked to have already been cleaned up and closed down. Hadn’t seen a film here in many years, and am sorry to see the old place go, as it still looks good in many respects, especially that unique mural of old-time Hollywood stars situated over the lobby. The 14-screen Kerasotes replacement in the parking lot looks much better now after having been painted, but it also looked like there’s still some interior work going on.

Remember seeing both “Batman” and “Nightmare on Elm Street 5” here on the same day in 1989 – was a nice theater, if a little tough to get to

I remember this place – it wasn’t the cleanest or most modern, but it was cheap and accessible. I think the last film I saw here was “Sleepy Hollow”, I also recall seeing “The Shadow” and “The Phantom” at Movie City

I believe this one actually closed in 1997 – I was home for Christmas one year and remember the marquee read something along the lines of “Thanks for 25 Great Years”
