In 1980 there was a theatre that must have been a twin. Called The Port Jefferson West and the other screen was The Mini East? Don’t know if this is the art or another house.
The Graham would start the first feature of the day somewhere in the middle. The projector would be turned on around 12:30 pm and suddenly you’re in the middle of “Bonnie and Clyde” or “The Graduate” or whatever. jaygastby on Jul 2, 2004 at 10:49am
The only other time I ever heard this happen was when Murray Schoen owned The Drake. They were showing “The Other Side of Midnight” and on the weekdays to get enough shows in they had to cut one reel of the film. The theatre used to screen at 12, so the manager was told to open the box office at 11:58 so that when people bought their ticket and candy and sat down they would only think they missed a minute or so.
Is this the theatre called 72 St East, that I think was run by Town & Country? The place I am thinking off was on 72 St & First Ave. I think it closed around 1982?
They painted the side and back of the bricks that were covered in graffiti. A friend saw them taking out the seats the other day. I wish I knew for sure what was going on here.

Those pictures are awesome, the place still looked great. Cinema Tours claims this theatre was also known as The Venetian, I never heard this before?
What is the thinking behind letting a theatre go to crap the minute there is competition? There are cases of theatres surviving by finding their niche in booking and operations. What I cant figure out is the Crossbay 2, it’s in a free booking zone and UA has let the place fall apart so bad it has to be seen to believe.

Was this an end of the run house?
About two years ago they were running HBO on the screen. It really did not matter what they played since the purpose of coming here was to have sex.
Wow, another NY theatre going away. This place lasted 100 years and should be saved.
Does the indoor house run the same film at the same time?
It’s a store.
Yes, is the giant X still there?
It was interesting to read on that new 70mm site how many big pictures opened here in 70mm.
The picture is small but I am sure that was a movie theatre.
Thanks, are they all on the site?

Was the 86th St East a different theatre?

How great that this drive-in has lasted seventy years.
I liked this house alot, it was very comfortable. It looked alot like The Whitman inside, with the tragedy and comedy masks.
Great News !!!! I hope we can look forward to more classic films.

If I remember right this theatre had a long marquee in the front like the RKO Rockville Center, does anyone remember?
Ridgewood 3 was the way the theatre was billed in the years it operated as a triplex.

One of the drive-in sites has pics of the 110
All of the Trans-Lux Theatres in Ny were always well maintained and had good bookings.
