looks like alice is selling well at this theater, both in imax and 3d. I’m waiting until the dvd release date since there’s too many 3d films playing this year. THe only ones I want to see is Harry Potter, that dragon movie, Shrek 4, and Hubble 3D. Next IMAX movie I’d like to check out is Iron Man 2 and Inception, not to mention Tron Legacy. Was the trailer shown before Alice in 3D and IMAX 3D? I’m waiting until it’s online to see it. The next movie I’m seeing next Friday is Green Zone, starring Matt Damon. It should be worth seeing on the big screen with the booming sound and big picture. Hope it’s still 35mm.
thank you jjd. As of right now, the midnight showing of Alice in IMAX 3D and the 8:45 showing of that movie have sold out. This on a weekend where the temps will be rising and be more like a spring weekend, even though it’s still winter. According to my friend Paul, on Fridays it’s decent, but on Saturdays it’s busy, with Sunday being a mall shopping day with half of the shoppers going to the mall and half of them going to the movies. I hope Rockaway gets to show that Ghost Writer movie once the Oscar hoopla is done and over with…it has done pretty good in limited release (the Clairidge in Montclair is showing it).
I agree. If Avatar wins any Oscars come Sunday night (Which I’ll miss because ABC might not be on Cablevision), especially Best Picture, then it will be the first time ever a major 3D movie has won the big kahuna. As for that other big movie that would win it, it’s playing at several Clearviews. This coming Saturday AMC is showing that movie alongside the last four nominated films as part of its Oscar festival. If The Hurt Locker wins, then James Cameron will be ticked off. ONe other interesting tidbit, his current wife, Suzy Amis, was in Cameron’s last big movie, Titanic, as the daughter of Gloria Stuart’s character, Rose.
i first saw this movie on vhs in a widescreen edition that was fit onto one tape during the mid-90’s. THX did the remastering for the film for its laserdisc, vhs, and eventually dvd release. The overture and intermission music was removed to save space on that one tape. What was weird about this movie was that the 20th century fox logo didn’t have the fanfare at the beginning, since the movie was set in a dark time in history. Could you imagine if Fox still used Cinemascope for Sound of Music? Would be pretty weird. To this day, The Sound of Music is the most popular standalone Fox movie of all time.

FYI, the new Tron Legacy trailer that was screened today at select IMAX 3D theaters will be attached to Alice In Wonderland. I can’t wait for that. The first Tron was a masterpiece, and was ahead of its time with its use of computer animation in a live-action world. The trailer will also be shown in Disney Digital 3D as well.
last chance to see avatar in liemax 3d this weekend before alice in wonderland takes over next weekend. So far, the midnight showings at AMC’s IMAX showings are not selling as well as Avatar, which changed the way people watched 3D movies again forever. Too bad Iron Man 2 and Inception are not in 3D but in blown-up IMAX. Wonder how that would look on that semi-big screen….I plan on seeing Alice In Wonderland in IMAX or digital 3D if the IMAX sells out. As for sporting events being shown at theaters, I heard that a UFC game will be shown next month at select theatres, and provide a cheap alternative for those who don’t want to pay for tv.
Showtimes are up for Alice in Wonderland in Imax 3D but not in digital 3D. The midnight shows are sold out. Unlike Avatar, Alice will have a limited run. And Slimshady, the story about amc not showing alice is fake. Hopefully Rockaway adds more 3d screens between the release of Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans and beyond.
i think they just put the Celine dion showtime in the middle of an Avatar 3D run on that one screen, which means that the projector had to switch to 2D 4k and then return to 3D for the rest of the showtimes.
For Tomorrow, Up is not playing in 3D as part of the Best Picture showcase due to Avatar and Alice In Wonderland being in Reald 3D.

avatar will be only in 2d starting tomorrow, and alice 3d is on one screen.
Alice will be playing in digital 3d on several screens tomorrow at this theater.

digital 3d begins this weekend with Alice in Wonderland.
btw, will amc put in an etx screen? That’s the new gimmick that AMC is using on several screens in america, including one at walt disney world in fla.

great movie. I remember seeing it on vhs at my relative’s house and liked the film.
looks like it’s correct, according to movietickets.com. Must be the first time that Rockaway is showing two 3d movies in reald and one in Imax 3d.

i agree. What’s the latest on new projectors, slimshady?
JJD, any word on when more projectors will be available for future 3D movies like Alice, and Dragon?

this is going to be interesting…btw, the theater is having a delayed opening due to the snowstorm; yesterday it closed early due to the bad weather.
thanks slimshady…looks like 3-d is here to stay.

btw, this coming weekend a special screening of footage for the upcoming “Tron Legacy” movie will be shown at the IMAX 3D auditorium.
