I managed the State in 1985 for a short time. It was a one-man operation, as the box office had been moved inside behind the concession stand and a new projection booth had been built on the ground floor, accessed through a door behind the concession stand. The State was at one time part of the Schine chain.
The original entrance and grand lobby is now the Sbarro restaurant on the corner. The current location of the marquee is an exitway off of the back of the auditorium which served as its entrance after it was triplexed. It was indeed called the Embassy 1-2-3 after the Embassy 1 closed.
The building currently houses an Office Max store, but still looks very much like a theatre. My understanding is the lobby portion suffered a devistating fire in the late 80’s/early 90’s, and was demolished. The shell of the auditorium is now the store.
It was called the Bowl Drive-In. The screen can be seen from I-95. I don’t know when it closed, but it seems to be still in tact. Last time I drove by, the marquee was gone. Probably fell down.
The Pompano Cinema 4 is within walking distance on Federal Highway, just north of the Muvico/old UA site on the same side of the street. The Shopper’s Haven plaza is on the corner of Federal and Sample Rd.
This theatre was an anchor in the Shopper’s Haven Plaza. After GCC closed it, and independent from Massachusettes (Lockwood-Friedman, later Lockwood-McKinnon) opened the theatre. It was divided into a four-plex and ran first run into the early 90’s, when a megaplex (Muvico Pompano) opened down the street (replacing the UA Movies at Pompano 6). The Cinema 4 Pompano, as it was then known, reverted to second run features and eventually closed. Last I knew it was still standing, abandoned.
Both auditoriums of the State and the Erie were demolished. The Erie went down in the 70’s, and the State in the mid-80’s. The arcade and lobby building of the State is still standing. The marquee is used for local business advertising, although the “STATE” letters are gone.
There are two former Jerry Lewis Theatres still open in North Jersey—the Valleyview Twin in Wayne, and the Kinnelon 1-2-3 in Kinnelon (a.k.a. Meadtown Cinema).
The Times Square is still standing. About three months ago, the front was boarded over and work began inside to clean it up. They’ve also ‘reattached’ the stage, which had been bricked off to serve as retail space some years ago. What will they use it for?? To my knowledge, it’s available for restaurant or retail space. It cannot be used for legit, as the load in for the stage would be on 42nd St, and that’s not allowed by city ordinance.
The Roxy is now a strip club. It’s located right up the street from the Cameo.
This theatre is still open—as the Mall Quad in Monticello. It was originally opened and operated by General Cinema.
The current building is a virtual replica of the original, which burned to the ground in the 90’s.
When City Cinemas operated this building, it was known as the West Side Cine 1 & 2.
Yes, I work with her. I showed her your post yesterday, and she was wondering who you were…
Rose is boooking Clearview Cinemas now—she handles all of NJ, Westchester & Rockland Counties of NY, all of Long Island, CT, and PA.

This theatre was demolished about 10-15 years ago for a parking lot.

This is the 62nd & Broadway Cinema, located across from the Lincoln Plaza Cinemas. Cineplex Odeon opened it in the 80’s.
Yes, the lobby cases are exactly as they were.
The vertical marquee and all advertising for the theatre spell it “HYWAY”.
Movie Premieres are by invite only from the film distributors. They rent the Zieg from us for their event.
The theatre and lobby are 100% in tact. It’s totally worth the trip, if you can make it.
The building was demolished, to my understanding.

The Stanley-Warner Route 4 Cinema is now theatres 1 – 5.
The American is still standing as well—it’s now an electrical supply store, and the Colony’s auditorium is used for an auto repair business…

Creative Entertainment is a film booking service, like Lesser Theatres.
