Sept 2 1971 sees the Rosa Drive-in playing “THE GREAT WHITE HOPE” basically a black movie in a county where I would bet in the seventies and even today is 90% white.Where was the Market in this town?Second feature was “THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES” even this movie is a bad selection for a mainly Mountain/Rural area.
Feb.5 1973 and “THE LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS” is playing. And if they didn’t leave early during the first feature, you can bet by reel two the ROSA was empty,“HAROLD and MAUDE” not a Middlesboro Flick. Was the second feature.
Dec.1 1985 Movies NOW SHOWING. “PLENTY"
"BACK TO THE FUTURE"
"STAND ALONE"
"BAD MEDICINE"
"SANTA CLAUS”
And sharing one screen was the G rated “RAINBOW BRITE” and the evening show was “JAGGED EDGE”.Pity there is no interest from Charleston on her theatres.
thanks raysson. I didn’t include COLUMBIA Pictures,But we played alot of Columbia Pictures at Columbia Square 1 and 2.I hate we never played UA because I WAS such a big 007 fan.We would pick them up sometimes third run after the Georgia Theatres Drive-ins in town would finish.By then the prints were not the best for a first run Twin in the seventies.
Yeah, Nick THE IMPERIAL is using DVD’s projected on the big screen.I saw a bit of a movie and it didn’t look so bad, just no bell ringing in the booth to warn the projectionist{Bill} a change over is coming.“what’s A change over!” Lol. Hey, some folks on CT probably don’t know.
yeah,I wouldn’t want you to get in trouble, but when theatres have closed and the dumpster is in the back as they have been in Augusta the stuff tossed out is pricless to 99 % of the guys that are Ct.I filled a Pick-up truck full when NationaL Hills, Columbia 1 and 2 Theatres and the Regency 8 closed here. When the Weis Cinema Centre closed I was out of town.A friend told me that knew the janitor said hundreds of one sheets from the seventies to when it closed in the late 80’s were tossed in the dumpster.I am sure they are in the City landfill today.
Also Maximos, this is great place for theatre stories.I woked several theatres in Augusta in Management and filled those theatres with stories,I hope you can do the same. Most of the CT members enjoy the tales of the Theatre.Quite a few, never worked a movie house.
Thanks Maximos.I live over in Evans,Georgia and was doing my best to get these Aiken Screens on.I have a friend who shot a video tape of closing night at the Cinema,Bill Barkley of Bath,S.C.
Not that I will ever get back on here, but i had to see what was so great about this Theatre.Seems like it could be ANY theatre and a lot of off topic stuff That i get jumped on doing myself.Next time, i am telling them to get on this theatre and see a bunch of off topic things.Still this must be the greatest theatre in the World.Have a nice day, guys.
Really nice marquees. Owned by UNITED DETROIT THEATRES in 1956 as mentioned above. Harold H. brown was the President. With Robert Salter the purchasing agent.
Throughout my 1956 Motion Picture almanac i have had some cities that belonged in different states, either a misprint or we entered the Twilight Zone, Andy.

Jan.10 1970 “THE LION IN WINTER” is playing at the Manring Theatre.
Sept.2 1971 “THE NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS” is playing.
I have seen this location.Right off 1-75 I think.
Sorta sounds cheap and tacky instead of “unique”,but what the heck,by that time theatre chains could have really cared less.

Yes,I wish them the best.Too.
i wish all of you guys that never did would have had a chance because it was a great job during my years 1974 1979 1981 – 1983.

Yes,it could have been handled alot better, but AP has picked up the Story now so its everywhere now.

Nick,I hope you locate that Motion Picture Almanac i gave you.Great talking on the phone. That Almanac would really help you.
I would hate to see what it looks like inside.A good Boris Karloff flick would be fine for that theatre, not “Peter Pan”.

Really nice picture. retroguy,Where were the Stagehands! if they are like my union brothers i bet they were out back on a smoke break.lol.
Nice theatre even if it is 18 screens.thanks for the pictures.

thanks Nick, for another wonderful write up.Great picture.
Thanks guys.
