Hello-
what does Lincoln Square’s new Dolby Theater have in comparison to Regal’s Union Square 4DX Theater to justify the high price increase?
Yes, also looks like price is $1 more than the standard IMAX price here (and I think the same as IMAX 3D) which I would definitely prefer over the Dolby. I imagine AMC did some market testing, but seems really high, I would say if someone wants to go the Dolby fairly often, they should just join the A List service (which would cover the ticket and is $6.49 less per month than a single adult Dolby ticket here).
Hello-
a recent post mentions that the price for a ticket for the new Dolby Theater is $3 more than at Empire 42 St. is the extra $$$ really worth it?
Its seems they lost a lot of seats. But to charge $3 more than AMC25. I don’t think its worth the trip up there.
The new Dolby has stadium seating on the balcony. Rest is regular seating. Seat count appears to be 290 according to Fandango, which is a bit more than Empire’s Dolby (219).

I wonder if this will be the largest Dolby Cinema in the US, as the Odeon Leicester Square will break the record for largest Dolby Cinema in the world.
Looks like the Dolby Cinema auditorium will open up today 10/25/18! A Star Is Born opens it up with its first ever showtime at 7:00pm today. According to AMC’s ticketing website at least. Hope to help open up this new auditorium sometime this weekend, bummer I can’t make it for the first day’s showtimes… Enjoy and make sure to share your experiences!
The Dolby Cinema will open tomorrow here, balcony seems to have been preserved according to Fandango.

Hello-
i hope my fellow moviegoers can help with a question. when the Harvey Weinstein scandal hit just a year ago whatever Weinstein Company Oscar Bait films that were set to open between then and Dec. 31 never opened. and have apparently vanished into thin air. i was especially looking forward to The Current War with Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon and Nicholas Hoult. the film was originally set to open Nov. 2017 but has yet to appear. where are all the Weinstein Company films that were going to be released last fall 201? have they vanished into thin air never to be seen again? thanks for any info.
The basement level concession stand is also down. I was there yesterday to see Bad Times at the El Royale, and it looked like one of the three basement screens was also going through some work
IMAX refreshment stand under renovation for about a month. If you buy refreshments you have to use the main stand on the 2nd Floor.
Dolby Cinema (LOEWS) opening within the next two weeks according to Lincoln Square employees
Curious. From the IMAX site it states “When you watch Damien Chazelle’s First Man in IMAX, you will experience one of mankind’s greatest accomplishments in the most immersive way possible.
The Academy Award-winning filmmaker captured the breathtaking lunar sequences of the legendary Apollo 11 mission with IMAX’s high-resolution cameras.
Really? What about the rest of the film?? What will we see on the screen at Lincoln Square in the IMAX laser presentation?
WOW! The UK is yet to open its first Dolby Cinema and yet you guys get movie theaters with both IMAX and Dolby Cinema in the same multiplex! So lucky!
How big is the Loews theater compared to the IMAX screen?
Yes, it is the Loews screen which is being converted to Dolby Cinema. It’s been closed and under renovation since mid June (the entrances to the theater are covered up with signs advertising Dolby Cinema coming soon).
I believe the 2nd best theater there ( I am sure some would consider it the best)—the Loews—is getting converted. Curious how a balcony experience will be there now.
Is one of the existing auditoriums being converted to Dolby Cinema or will this be an additional/new one?
Still under construction (I was there on Sunday). Kinda surprised how long it’s taking given that AMC Empire was able to do their IMAX laser upgrade in less than a month, and this screen already had Atmos like how Empire had 12 channel sound (I’m sure the reclining seating at Dolby Cinema adds to the renovation time, but doesn’t seem like it should be this long).
Any update on dolbyv
Probably comes down to cost (an IMAX film print of a movie of that length costs like 30k to produce) and in general new releases being shown on film is a rare thing. I think IMAX laser isn’t quite there to 15/70 when the latter is projected right, but it will fill the screen and still look stunning (a huge difference from when Lincoln Square was using the digital “liemax” projector which left the screen with a windowbox image with black bars on all four sides).
wait, I’m sorry I’m a little behind, so First Man isn’t on film in the IMAX theater here? It’s digital imax laser here but will still fill the whole screen? Why didn’t they make film prints?
Thriller was formatted to completely fill the 1.43 screen here (since I believe it was shot 4x3, probably was a little cropping used, but I think acceptable to get the effect of filling this huge screen). It looked great, my complaint was since it was basically done as part of the trailer package for House, they had lights up during it which limited the immersion and atmosphere.
Hello-
I would appreciate it if someone could explain something to me. Venom got very mixed reviews at leas the reviews I read yet it had a decent opening weekend. now Green Lantern and the Fantastic 4 reboot got rather mixed reviews and the box office was accordingly not very impressive. I assume this occurred because even people who were looking forward to the films paid attention to the reviews and decided not to go. so why would Venom which got equally mixed reviews have a decent opening weekend?
What were your thoughts on thriller in imax 3d playing before house with a clock in its walls? The video was remastered from the original 35mm print and converted into 3d. I saw clips online and its a flat ratio . This print was used for screening before fantasia in one movie theater in order for the film to be nominated for an Oscar for best short subject but was rejected by the academy.
Yes, I’d see First Man in 70mm Imax somewhere, but since only digital Imax, I doubt I will spend the extra ticket cost. More likely I will see it in a movie theater in scope, not in an Imax.
