Is there any word or information on how long this theater will be closed to do this really stupid redevelopment. Raising the theater to make retail space underneath is the most stupid idea I ever heard of. I can' only hope the building survives. It is a legend in Times Square.

Great locally owned theater that shows art fare documentaries and not mainstream blockbusters. They close the curtains ( both theaters are vertical top to bottom) at the end of each movie and they do the slide show for about 15 minutes or less than lower the curtains again before each film starts. Both theaters have masking that is at the top of screen and comes down for scope presentations.

Was this an antitrust issue and why Cinemark is taking over moviebuff82?

Great news. Awesome theater chain so much better and customer service oriented than AMC

The whole idea is a waste of time and money and a threat to one of Broadways finest theaters. That hotel is not even 30 years old. The theater was closed from 87-91 when they reopened with The Will Rogers Follies. What a waste. I can’t believe the Neederlanders agreed to this. They must not own the property. UGH

I did Wilburg 145. It was no different than all the other theaters on 42nd St. They were all sleezy even first run houses.

The 50th anniversary theatrical rerelease was also stunning plus the digital presentation was 2.20 which is about as close to 70MM as you can get

I agree. AMC was a great chain for all the years I loved in Florida. I think since the Chinese corporation bought them they are a fly by night chain. I was so happy when they purchased the Carmike chain. Well, the theater was bad enough when Carmike had it, it has gotten even worse since AMC took over in March of 2017. I refuse to ever go there again.

Sometimes Seth they get updated later in the day or on Thursday.

Status needs to be updated to demolished. It’s been demolished since the late 60’s to early 70’s. They played the exclusive Philadelphia engagement of a Man For All Seasons. Does anyone know if it was a roadshow engagement like other big cities? They also ran concurrent with the Bryn Mawr.

I was there once when it was a twin but the only thing I remember is the theater on the right had masking and the left did not. If I recall correctly it was a tacky split.

Jeffpiatt They did merge the programs and honored what free stuff I had with Carmike but not without BS. And yes they all constantly pushed to get me to become a premier member which was a waste of my $15.00. Never again. I’ll stick to the Cinemark Regal and two local chains which treat customers great. I knew this was not up to what I remembered from AMC for 23 years in Florida.

Rayman29 and jeffpiatt I agree. They lied to me and I am paid for the premiere membership was a waste of my money. The manager who was there from Carmike Greg was awesome but for some reason he was let go and rude snippy girl Kayla who was his assistant is now GM. I called corporate and got transferred to customer service which I specifically asked for a call back from the district manager and of course that didn’t happen. I copy and pasted all the Yelp reviews on their corporate page if they look at it. That’s ok Alamo Draft is looking at two locations up the street on Tunnel Road as is another chain. It will be a matter of time before this theater is gone. They won’t last through their 7 year lease.

Thanks Jeff. I am not sure they would care. They raised admission prices after they took over. They are $2-33 higher than Regal, Cinemark and the two local chains plus their concession prices are also much higher. It is worth a try. Rayman not sure what Yelp is

This theater is run as bad as it was when it was Carmike. Last night was the final straw. I went to see A Wrinkle In Time and from the pre show through half the movie an infant cried. Me and the people behind me complained and when the GM came the mom had taken the child out, but once they came back it started again. Kayla the GM said that they can’t do anything except ask to take the baby out. That is bull crap an infant does NOT belong in a movie theater. AMC used to be a good chain but they suck now. I will never go back there again.

Mikeoaklandpark commented about Angelika 57 on Dec 21, 2017 at 3:18 pm

To my knowledge this was the only Roadshow engagement that played here. It seems to be the case for other cities. In Philly it played Theater 1812 and Atlantic City the Charles. That was the only two roadshow engagements they had.
