From what I have been told only the adjacent shop units have been demolished. The cinema building still remains in April 2006, awating its final ‘death’.

Opened in 1921 with as screening of the Oscar Micheaux film “Symbol of the Unconquered”. It opened as the New Dunbar Theatre by the Savannah Motion Picture Company.

Just looked up the 34th Street Theatre and found its listed in Film Daily Yearbook’s from 1926, 1927, 1930, 1941 and 1943. Same address and seating capacity as posted above by William. Strange it is currently not listed on Cinema Treasures.

Al; I have just found a Photoplay Palace Theatre in the American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915. The address given is 176th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, New York, NY. Could be the same theatre?

Al; The 1926 Film Daily Yearbook lists a Palace Theatre, 1326 St. Nicholas Avenue, New York, NY with a seating capacity of 574. It isn’t currently listed on Cinema Treasures (under the Palace name)

I have just found that this originally opened in around 1911 as the Electric Cinema. Within days it had been re-named Olympia Cinema. It became the Standard Cinema from 1912 and had a ‘straight’ pipe organ to acompany the silent films.

The Standard Cinema was equipped with a Christie 2Manual/8Ranks theatre organ in 1927. It was opened by Charles Willis.
