This is a good deal for those who want to see a 3d version of a family movie at no cost. In other 3d news, AMC has teamed up with RealD to install 1,500 of its screens with the technology (one for every theater).
I read from an earlier post that Theater 8 would get digital projection in the near future. All screens for Monsters vs Aliens will be 35mm at the AMC in Rockaway. I got an email from Clearview Cinemas with their newsletter and a handful of their cinemas will show the movie in digital 3-D. The AMC in Clifton Commons as well as Garden State Plaza will show the movie in 3-D, I know.
thanks for the photo links, greg. Which theater was better, the old Rockaway 12 or the new Rockaway 16? I think the newer one was great and that moviegoers would just have one choice to go see a movie rather than go in or out of the mall to see it.
Here’s a link to a story regarding management changes at the parent company of this theater…http://tinyurl.com/dykcpf
BTW, will digital debut this weekend with Monsters vs Aliens? One screen (theater 8) will have the 3-D version, while two other screens or more will show it in 35mm 2-D. I know all the digital Clearviews will show it on most of their screens since this movie will become a must-win for Dreamworks, since it’s the largest real D/ Imax 3-D movie rollout of all time. There’s an article in several Time Warner-owned magazines about the 3-D rebirth craze, along with the color code 3-D glasses that were also used for the Super Bowl ad and a TV show. Trust me, that 3-D is not as good as Digital 3-D.
The Meadow Six was the first to open in 1982, so I guess the Plaza 8 opened shortly thereafter. Now Secaucus will have only one theater left until the Meadow Six closes and the new Kerasotes Showplace 14 opens. BTW, how’s construction going at that place?
Just came back from a 2:10 showing of “I Love You Man” in one of the big auditoriums and before the film started the preshow didn’t have picture but had sound working. Hopefully they’ll fix it by the next time I see a movie here.
I read a headline today that says that the opening of Xanadu is delayed yet again until 2010, which means that moviegoers will have to go to North Bergen or the new Hoboken theater that will open this year for their moviegoing fix.
the new jonas brothers movie is playing on the two dlp screens, while coraline is in 2d. the next 3d movie will be monsters vs aliens, followed by ice age 3.
after the outer closed, several retailers in that same building have come and gone, while a few, such as acme, have survived since the outer’s opening in 1981. the doors that were near the entrance had the gold amc logo in the middle of the doors as well as a changeable display that was small but easy to read. inside the lobby, there were more arcade machines than the current one, and the concession stand was tiny.
upcoming movies for next week are i love you man, knowing, and duplicity. hopefully by the 27th 3d will be installed for monsters vs aliens as well as any future 3d and 2d movies in the digital format. hopefully it will be 4k instead of the 2k that the clearviews as well as the amcs in paramus and clifton use.

Monsters vs Aliens will be the first movie shown in RealD at this theater starting tomorrow.
Breaking news…apparently AMC is going to add RealD in some of its theaters….

Imax 3D will debut 6/30/2009.
I read that too. Transformers 2 will be the first movie to be shown, followed by the second-to-last Harry Potter movie.

Looks like Monsters vs Aliens will be playing on mostly non-digital 3-d screens. That stinks.

Maybe Regal could do it, since they’re publicly traded and are in much better shape than AMC.
Yup. I’m not getting any notices at all too. I even get notifications to theaters that I haven’t been to, so I don’t subscribe to them at all.

I agree with ur comment, christophersepp. When did the 8 plex open?

thanks for updating the status of the theater.
On the AMC website, there’s still a webpage featuring the now-closed theater, but the fandango showtimes say they’re not available.

i know what u mean.
upcoming movies for next week are 12 rounds, a haunting in connecticut, and monsters vs aliens in 2d.
I saw the theater while watching the movie “Milk”. Very classy theater, even though I haven’t been inside it.

That version is also on blu-ray.
i watched that movie on vhs in the early 90’s and it was a great movie. hope they don’t remake it!
