I trust you had a good evening in the company of Miss Diamond and Zoe Mr Roe. Its a great place isnt it. Did you get to venture up into Flamingos to see the whole auditorium?
There are some great cinema buildings in South Wales that can still be seen. Swansea has some great buildings -The Albert Hall, The Carlton-foyer only as auditorium demolished in the 90s but foyer is a cafe with amazing atmosphere. The Odeon and the castle Cinema . All worth a visit. The Prince Of Wales in Cardiff is great to and have a beer in and see the auditorium.
Wow! What do you mean by ‘replacment’. I was manager there back in the 80s and always thought it would close and be redeveloped. Id be interestd in what you know.
Well i remember ages ago the reports were that they were going to put up a more traditional new marquee. I do like this one even tho it doesnt look that exciting, its 100% better than what they ve just rippedd down. Thanks for the pics Ian. I’ll be in town tomorrow and will take a proper look.
Those pictures are simply stunning! Im a great lover of theatre arcitecture and im now convinced that is the most beautiful building ive ever seen. Im stunned! I dont remember it looking that amazing when i went in years back
The pros arch looks like a gat way to heaven (pun kind of intended!)
I strolled in there a few years back and the place was in stunning shape. I read on here its been well looked after and renovated again since i was there. Guys if youre in th e area dont walk past. Theres no body to stop you takeing a look. I wish i couldopen the PhotoBucket files for all those photos
From the photos of thise cutie little place it actually looks quit big but when you stand there today without seating it seems so small just as someone said earlier like a mulitplex screen of today. I have a feeling we are not seeing the auditorium as deep today as it was when it was screening. I maybe wrong but theres no way this house had a balcony!!! As long as tourists keep visiting Times Sq then i guess this little house will stay in the condition it is today for all to enjoy.
Cheers Warren! I know that one down the road -Times Sq Tourist Centre. Nicely kept little, come to think of it very little theatre there. Cant wait to walk past Embassy 2,3,4 next time im in town. It thrills me to think that theres such a sleeping giant behind that door. Lets pray its woken up gently pretty soon eh!
Thats great to hear E54. I get to Cardiff 2 or 3 times a year so will check it out if i can soon.
It doesnt look very ‘open’ in this shot.
Ken your links arnt working for theses pics. i havent seen this building for about 20 yrs now so i hope you can get it to work.
You lucky, lucky people!
I found this a most unpleasant experience whaen i was there last in the late 80s
I’ll be there again mid-September camera in hand.

Hideous! I shudder everytime ive walked past this thing. I would never contemplate stepping inside. Rip it down now.
It can only look better than it did before. Verty depressing place when i sat there in the mid 90s.
It was called ‘Leicester Square Theatre’ then. A much nicer name than ‘Odeon West End’
