FYI, the digital projection used for the NCM Fathom is the same equipment used for the digital preshow, which looks blurrier than what Screenvision does for Cablevision’s Clearview chain. Among the summer movies that will be shown on the new IMAX screen in Rockaway will be the next Transformers movie, which promises more robots, explosions, and romance. BTW, Dark Knight is still playing on four screens and will still play for a month or two and become the longest running movie in this theater before hitting the DVD store just in time for the holidays.
The closest drive-in near me is the Warwick Drive-In, one of only a few in the New York Metro Area. As for the movie showing on the screen in the photo, that’s the opening logo for the new Indy movie.
Unlike the Succasunna theater, this theater’s projection is powered by HQV processing by Silicon Optix; the logo appears after the “Feature Presentation” card, and there’s no Technicolor Digital logo after the Clearview welcome snipe. At the Garden State theater, there was no DLP trailer before Ratatouille.
i went to see mummy 3 in theater #8 (4:15, dlp), masking was great, although there was a moire effect and a little speck on the upper right corner of the screen that was minor. Sound was great and clear. Seems that in the near future Clearview will have its first all-digital multiplex. Check this link out…http://tinyurl.com/67te6s
So far, I prefer this theater over Rockaway since it’s closer to my dad’s home and that it’s less crowded than the bigger theater.
I haven’t been to a Regal in three years, when I went to the one in South Plainfield near a hotel respite by UCP. I only saw two movies there, the Hulk and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I missed the first few minutes of each movie since they introduced the 2wenty program at this theater, especially with the Hulk movie due to traffic issues and eating a late lunch. Lately, this theater has been showing digital projection, but only for NCM Fathom events. I’ve been near the Pohatcong cinema right across from the McDonald’s, and that theater can’t keep up with another Warren County theater, the Mansfield, with half of its screens with DLP.
I agree. DLP has been around for 10 years (same time as HDTV’s introduction to the US), so it will take time and money before all theaters convert film to digital or vice versa.
How about Clearview? They dominate the tri-state area except this area. With the new Hoboken theater under way and maybe this one (expected to tie with Mansfield for most screens for the company), the chain might turn a profit for moviegoers who are also yankee fans.
i think batman will be number one this weekend for a second week until the new mummy movie comes out, which will knock batman out of his number 1 spot but will be number 2. I predict that the Dark Knight will probably make around $300-$400 million, edging Spiderman 1 as the highest grossing superhero movie of all time.
I was surfing Google News for this theater, and here’s an interesting article from a local moviegoer complaining about the seats not big enough for his big body… http://tinyurl.com/5psvb6
Pretty soon Hoffman La Roche will close its Clifton location and move out west to California, creating a massive vacant space for more retail. Maybe more theaters? Probably not, as there are only two in Clifton, the smaller Allwood Cinema sixplex, which is still thriving, and of course this theater, which has one screen for DLP. Back before Clifton Commons opened, it was the site of ADP, and there was a proposal by Philips (the electronics maker) to create a mutliplex, but that faltered as the company went into some troubles. Enter General Cinema, whose first theater in NJ with stadium seating was Essex Green, and the rest is history.
see the next headline on CT. BTW, Titanic played the Loews in Wayne for six or so months into the spring long before it came out on vhs during the fall of 98 and on dvd the year after. Long live Titanic!!!
By next weekend, it will still be number one, but the decline should be smaller than other superhero movies since this one has got good word of mouth. Plus the IMAX version will have a long shelf life ahead before the new Harry Potter comes out.
read my post about this theater on the rockaway 16 page. the dlp was good, masking was off a bit as it is for dlp. theater 3, 330 showing on opening day, only the stadium seats were almost full.
on the day hancock opened, 800 dollars of cash were stolen from cash registers at the theater. this info i read from a local website. a few days ago, there was a jewelry robbery at the mall. looks like a job for batman, as his new movie is selling out. all eight midnight showings were sold out! thankfully, i went to mansfield to c dark knight in dlp cause it was closer to my dads house and not sold out.
As the new batman movie arrives, I’ve seen two batman movies at this theater. I was too young to see the first two, which I thought was a bit creepy and boring, but I really enjoyed Batman Forever in 5.1 SDDS (my first digital surround sound experience) in one of the large auditoriums. This was back when it was 8 screens. The next Batman movie I saw was a doozy. Batman and Robin in 5.1 SDDS in the same auditorium, and it was on a couple of the 14 screens during that expansion. I missed seeing Batman Begins but saw it on DVD, and now I’m ready for Dark Knight. One question, are all the sound systems in each screen now Dolby Digital instead of SDDS? Is this also the same in the other former Loews theaters (such as Secaucus and East Hanover)?

it will be a domed screen and will show 3d and regular imax movies.

Its stock price has been cheap as of late.

I checked the list, and the Rockaway theater isn’t one of them.

I agree. Both theaters will soon become retail space, just like the original Loews quad in Secaucus became the outlet shops that are still successful.
Same thing that Rockaway was a threat to all the other theaters in Morris County, and most of them still survive to this day.
