during my respite last week, i saw iron man in one of the theatres in the right wing of the building. sound was stereo but a bit scratched, projection was soso. theater was packed due to sex and the city. this theater is my least favorite of the amc loews theatres, alongside stroud mall. both wayne and secaucus are better than this place, although it will be sad to see kerasotes replace both theatres in secaucus, leaving behind wayne as the best choice.

i agree. When Mr. Redstone dies, his legacy will still live on with his daughter, Sharon, running the chain, which is not as well known as AMC or Regal. I’ve never been to a National Amusements cinema and never will, even though I see many of them especially in New England, where NA is hq’d. If they had to renovate the old theater, then they’d look at the Edgewater location as an example as this is a bit cheaper to build than the Cinema De Lux line (the closest is in Long Island).

check the comments on the Loews theaters in Secaucus. From what I heard, only the secaucus plaza 8 will be shut down in the Harmon Meadow section where the theater will be open. It will feature stadium seating and DTS sound in all screens, and it will open summer of next year just in time for another mindless Star Trek movie. The Meadow Six won’t be affected, but might be converted to retail space if both the Secaucus theater and the much bigger Muvico complex in Xanadu (also slated to open the same time as Kerasotes) do well. There are rumors that Kerasotes might open a theater in Edison with stadium seating, not to mention the return of movies to Hoboken by Clearview.

i still see the building on tv everytime I watch the traffic cams near the driscoll bridge. Weird that they built it near a busier highway than most other theaters.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Loews Paramus Route 4 Tenplex on May 25, 2008 at 1:02 pm

And one year ago today that it closed down. The night before it closed, it showed its last new movie, Pirates 3, before digital versions of the movie played on 2 screens at its successor. Had it been alive, it would be 43 years old. I guess it’s now all dust and bugs and mold that adorn this former Cinema Treasure.

Happy 1st birthday, GS 16!!! How is Indy doing at this theater? The last three movies did boffo box office at the old theater when it was seven (Raiders, Temple) to ten (Last Crusade) screens, as well as the triplex when it moved over there for other product. FYI, Indy 4 is being shown in good old 35mm and Dolby Digital 5.1. Last year, Pirates 3 moved over from the old theater into the new one, making “Bug” the first new movie to be played there on opening day, as “At World’s End” opened the night before the grand opening. Since then, many DLP showings, as well as the return of 3D to Paramus, brought moviegoers back to this theater but not those who prefer the original tenplex, which will become a Lowes store, as well as its sister theater, which is now a massive parking lot.

One other note, they replaced the Journey 3D poster and put in the regular version, and near the snack stand a big H featuring Will Smith (for Hancock) is there. Don’t forget that Sex and the City opens this coming weekend in Rockaway!!! As for the framing of Indy 4, they did a good job, with slight darkness near the bottom and sides of the screen. There were some splices near the end of the movie and on the Hellboy II trailer, as well as some splotches of black. So far, most of the theaters around my area are not showing Indy 4 in digital, just good old film. And that’s the way Spielberg intended to be, alongside his friend Lucas. Too bad this theater is not THX certified like Clifton Commons, Bridgewater, or Essex Green, which I haven’t been to. I think THX wouldn’t like the way the theater was built, as sound bleeds into the wall of each theater.

Try telling that to AMC, which a year ago opened their flagship North Jersey theater in Paramus with two DLP projectors. I saw a showing of Ratatouille at the GS 16, and although the picture was blurry (like all other AMC screens), it was bright and the surround sound was loud and clear as opposed to what Clearview does with a dark picture and so-so surround sound, as was the case with the National Treasure sequel. I haven’t seen a 3d movie at a clearview, but I saw the Nightmare re-release in 3D at Jersey Gardens and the 3D was darker than 2D hence the glasses but that can’t beat IMAX 3D!!!

Not to mention cranky seniors and babies. I’d wish they kept the Reel Moms program, not to mention updating their projection to be more like other AMC theaters in NJ such as the one in rockaway, which was supposed to be a Loews until the AMC deal went through. Pretty soon this theater will become a Wal-Mart or Lowes, just like the old tenplex in Paramus will become.

went to see indy at a 435 showing, on two screens! i preferred the larger one, 8, as opposed to 7 on the ticket. presentation was very good and the crowd enjoyed it. recently amc has put new pricing offers for senior citizens and college and high school students that will please those movie goers. i hope the imax debuts when batman returns to rockaway after he began again in parsippany 8 years after the dynamic duo bombed where best buy sits now!

moviebuff82 commented about DTS Digital Cinema business sold to Beaufort on May 19, 2008 at 11:42 am

It’s the digital cinema part of DTS. They still have the rights to the DTS audio codec and the systems used in a lot of theaters. They’re becoming a bit smaller than Dolby, the main competitor, since double d does have a digital cinema division; Sony used to have a digital cinema division that created SDDS but has since closed shop in 2002 to focus more on home entertainment and video games.

and hopefully every other movie showtime site will have it up and running. On New Day Cinemas' site, the theater is still listed…somone should remove that theater as it’s no longer owned by that company. BTW, no showtimes for Indy 4 on the 22nd as both Baby Mama and Narnia are still playing. I remember that this theater always had midnight showings of popular movies just like the big guys. I’m sure this theater showed all three Indy movies in the past.

not too far from this theater, there was a strange murder case that closed Tenafly Road, making the commute to this small theater a bit tricky. At least one suspect has been arrested in California.

Since Clifton Commons opened, has attendance at this theater declined? I bet it did.

moviebuff82 commented about Clairidge on May 18, 2008 at 4:27 pm

or watch it on youtube in bootleg or order it on high-def pay-per-view. This is why the box office is still struggling in the 21st century, especially for indie films like Juno and foriegn flicks. BTW, did clearview eliminate matinee pricing for its other theaters? I hope AMC doesn’t copy this stategy….since they show indie movies during AM Cinema weekends.

Since they will install a new Imax system just in time for the new batman movie, a new position would be needed for someone to run the digital system. What’s the status on the IMAX? I read that it’s not listed in the July openings.

also, no showtimes are posted online…is this theater’s opening delayed? Opening attractions include Baby Mama and Narnia. Next week Indy come out and will play alongside Narnia as Narnia 2 did well at the box office.

So far, I read that they’re installing new seats and improving the lobby while keeping the theater the way it is. Too bad they’ll show Indy at night the day I’m going to the nearby Hospital for an appointment, as opposed to day-long showtimes in Rockaway.
