Georgia Theatres had a habit of ruining great theatres,Did the same thing to National Hills in Augusta.GOTTA HAVE MORE SCREENS ! Sorry all this multiplexing ever happened.
Tlsloews.I think alot of us did that.Funny thing was in my case Columbia 1 and 2 were like the Madison a long way from the Imperial and National Hills, but everyone came out to Martinez.I was told more than once “I was the glue that held the gang together”.Were you the Glue? Also playing recorded music might be because some one might want loyalties? You in MUSIC CITY might get in Trouble.
First things First, when “Frankenstien” played here it was rated X,so they must have gotten an edited version. Marquee is good like Tlsloews said,But I wouldn’t have the ratings “R” and “PG” so large.
This from BILL BARKLEY. The Lunar Drive-in is owned by David Kilderry. It has Three screens. It reopened in 2002 after being closed since April 1984.The booth has one CENTURY and two PHILIPS DP70 {35,70MM }Projectors each with a 5000 -watt Xenon lamp illumination. The three 35mm double feature programs are each held on a single plate of the Platter system. Bill added most folks don’t know this but it first opened in 1956 as the single screen PANORAMIC DRIVE-In and in 1963 it was called the VIllAGE Drive-in until it closed in 1984. Bill said" IT is the only remaining drive-in theatres in the Melbourne area.“ David Kilderry is always open to talk about old drive-ins in the area and of course his LUNAR Drive-In Theatre. Thanks Bill for giving me this to add to Cinema Treasures, one day you are going to have to get on line.Yes,I have photos of the screen,The booth and the Drive-in,but I have no equipment to get them on sorry guys.
Drove by the old WEIS DRIVE-IN location.A church was suppose be built there, but nothing. It has been kept up such as grass cut and no trees growing everywhere.
Thanks Bob,Guess they were trying to facelift the old Mall, hence the name change.Hwy 72 should put you right by the mall it is the way I go to 1-26 bypassing Columbia.
“PURPLE ROSE” was a great Theatre Movie. Thanks Raymond Lo.
