Since the theater opened several months ago, has it been one of the profitable theaters for AMC? According to Wikipedia, only the Empire is the closest theater in my area that makes more money than the Rockaway location. Any word on when DLP comes to the theater? It would be nice to see a movie in HD, e.g. 300 or Grindhouse. The prints are a bit fuzzier than the Clearview screens in Parsippany, although the sound is really good and the seats are comfy!!!

Coming this march at the cinema…“Close Encounters of the Third Kind”…why don’t they show something like a “Star Wars”, a “Matrix”, or an “E.T.”? BTW, how does this film series at Succasunna compare to the Ziegfeld one?

Too bad the Rockaway theater won’t be showing this festival.

moviebuff82 commented about Menlo Park Twin Cinema on Feb 3, 2007 at 6:12 am

In the mid-1970s, probably around 1975. BTW, when the current multiplex opened in Menlo Park back in 1991, what made it different from the original theater which eventually closed down?

moviebuff82
moviebuff82 commented about Menlo Park Twin Cinema on Feb 1, 2007 at 3:06 pm

Mostly a stereo version, I believe. Theaters that were equipped with Dolby Stereo as well as the 70mm version played that version, while most theatres played a mono soundtrack. Therefore, the STEREO version played at the Menlo Park cinema. The MONO version had in fact more sound fx and more lines spoken by the star wars characters, especially aunt beru.

GCC had one profitable theater in the Bronx which would become the AMC Bay Plaza 13. The market for theatres in Long Island was too saturated.

just went to see happy feet( which has been playing for more than two months after it came out when the theater opened) and i was glad it was still playing while its opening weekend rival, casino royale, lived and let die at the theater. just wait until summer rolls around and there will be more movies that will have a long exhibition life. just like happy feet which was awesome on a decent screen with rumbling surround sound.

When the Route 4 became 10 screens, was the Route 17’s auditoriums the largest in Paramus? And what will be auctioned off the closed triplex? I would love a piece of memorabilia,

The AMC in Rockaway has stuff besides movies; a food stand, as well as a party room and a very small arcade room. Plus you got the mall, too!!!

THe last time I was at the theater, for Pirates 2, theater 1 had the organ playing while theater 2 has prerecorded music. Does theater 1 have digital surround sound as theater 2 has mono sound? Let me know.

As for the other theatres, one that is re-opening is the Sparta Theater. Any word on when that Nelson Page-owned cinema will reopen? I guess it will be better than the Newton theater which is located not too far from the Sparta theater which will become a triplex.

I agree with you, John. The only theater in Morris County that plays this kind of stuff is East Hanover, where The Queen played for a long time. BTW, East Hanover is also owned by AMC. I can’t believe NIght @ the Museum is still the top movie at the theater. It’s worth watching on a big, giant screen. Hopefully when summer comes around, I would love to see the movies in digital projection in the two big auditoriums. That would be nice. The other two theaters that have captions for the disabled are a godsend, since the other local theatres have only one RWC-equipped auditorium.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Clifton Commons 16 on Jan 17, 2007 at 2:25 pm

Whatever became of Clifton COmmons after AMC took over in 2002? The last time I was there, I saw “Monsters, Inc” when it was a General Cinema.

moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway 16 on Jan 17, 2007 at 2:20 pm

I was looking up showtimes for Pan’s Labryinth and found out that it’s not playing in Rockaway, but in Clifton which is about 20 or so miles away from where I live. Why doesn’t AMC put out more AMC Select movies in its theaters? Probably it’s because of the way things work between the theater company and the movie studio.

Will it look something like the new Rockaway theater that opened four years after the original movie theater closed down?

moviebuff82
moviebuff82 commented about Cinerama Hollywood on Jan 17, 2007 at 2:16 pm

Will there be an Arclight-like theater in the New Jersey area? The Rockaway theater that just opened doesn’t look at all like the theater in California!!! Probably the new Xanadu 26 theater should be like the Arclight.

moviebuff82 commented about Cinema 23 Fiveplex on Jan 16, 2007 at 3:57 pm

BTW, how was the screening of Star Wars at Cinema 23 compared with the Route 4 Tenplex? It must’ve been different because the screen was a bit smaller and the sound different. Does this theater still make money even though it’s facing competition from Kinnelon and Wayne?

moviebuff82 commented about Clifton Theatre on Jan 13, 2007 at 1:57 am

When I went to the theater before it closed during my childhood years, the Clifton sign wasn’t there, it was just the marquee. The theater was not too far from Blockbuster, which would be its main competitor after opening in the 90’s. The last movie I saw there was “Andre”; before the film began, they played in the middle of the movie and had to rewind the film before they started it. It was a good film, and one reason the Clifton was a place for urban and kiddie fare. One of the smaller theaters had a red light in the back (the exit sign) that looked like something out of “Das Boot”!!! Thank God that the theater is done!!!

moviebuff82 commented about Allwood Cinemas 6 on Jan 13, 2007 at 1:53 am

I don’t know. I saw an old newspaper ad in the New York Times during the late 1970’s and they listed Allwood as well as a handful of other theaters as either Flagship, Red Carpet, or Blue Ribbon. As for the Allwood, any news on when it might close in the near future? It would be sad to see it go the way of the dinosaur!!!

moviebuff82 commented about Men-Crying-Movies on Jan 13, 2007 at 1:44 am

I almost cried at the end of “Children of Men”, when the main male character (spoiler alert!!!!) dies from gunshot wounds while sitting in the boat with his love, who now has a baby boy. I hope she takes care of her only child and that she’ll be allright in all that London fog!!! This was a tearjerker of a sci-fi movie, more so than “E.T.”.

moviebuff82
moviebuff82 commented about AMC Rockaway 16 on Jan 12, 2007 at 2:23 pm

Just came back from a screening of “Children of Men”, and here are some issues that I had with the show:

1-During the last few minutes of the preshow, the screen went blank. My dad went over to see the general manager and the guy who runs the place says that it will take a while before everything’s up and ready. Has anyone experienced this kind of thing before? It doesn’t matter because it’s only the preshow. Soon after, the show went on.

2-The projection is a bit soft. Yeah, the sound is great, but the picture was not as sharp as the one I saw while I sneaked into a screening of “Primeval”, which was shot in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The smaller the screen , the sharper the image. I hope AMC has digital projection soon.

How about the seats? Are they rocking seatings as in other new Clearviews?
