Forget 2011…I’m waiting for Summer 2012: Chris Nolan’s 3rd Batman film, The Avengers, MIB 3, Star Trek 2, & Spider-Man Rebooted (on the other hand…I’m very skeptical about that one!)among others.
SUMMER 2010: WORST SUMMER EVER! An A for “Inception,” B+’s for Toy Story 3, Despicable Me & Iron Man 2 and that’s it. A couple of sleepers here and there but, for the most part, this summer was TERRIBLE!
Actually, the now closed Magic Johnson Theatres on Crenshaw/MLK was the first Loews built in Los Angeles. Yeah…it wasn’t Loews branded, but the design of that theatre is just like the other Loews multiplexes.
Why not sell those 3D glasses wholesale and charge 2 different pricing structures – $13 a person without glasses & $17 with glasses. Win-win for all involved.
This year I’ve only paid $$$ to see Avatar, How To Train Your Dragon, Clash of the Titans & Despicable Me in 3D. The rest of that stuff I’ve seen in 2D…and all the summer movies (except Despicable Me) at the drive-in. I got my whole family of 4 in to see Toy Story 3, Shrek 4 & Last Airbender for the price of 1 IMAX ticket! SWEET!
For the rest of the year, I only plan to see Harry Potter & Tron Legacy in 3D.
If they built at least 10 screens alongside Grauman’s, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. I would love to know which members of Mann’s management felt that, in the age of 15 screen multplexes on every other corner, a 6 screen theatre was a feasible 21st century business plan!
Word has it that the AC in The Dome malfunctioned at the Friday 7/16 8:15 show of “Inception”…with director Christopher Nolan present! They had to cancel the screening.
I went here on Saturday 7/17. The NA to Rave transformation is complete…or so I think.
The decor is exactly the same. The LED flat screens that direct folks to their auditoriums and the credit card kiosks have been Rave-ified. 12 Lounge (the restaurant/bar) has been renamed CRAVE and the menu has been tweaked. Concessioh stands switched from Pepsi to Coke. The IMAX auditorium looks exactly the same…but the opening spiel welcoming folks to the theatre was…WEIRD:
“Hello and welcome to the IMAX Theatre In West Los Angeles for this evening’s presentation of INCEPTION!”
IMAX THEATRE IN WEST LOS ANGELES? WTH??? No mention of Rave. Just absolutely bland. Makes me wonder if Rave’s planning to rename this theatre after all.
Alright, y'all. Time to state the obvious. Grauman’s Chinese & Chinese 6 (until another operator takes them over) are DEAD. Mann Theatres itself is DEAD. Hate to say it…sad to say it…but it’s the truth.
Exterior signage is up. Saw it today while zipping down the 405. It’s a very loud orange all lower case signage that reads “rave motion pictures”. I was not impressed…makes the theatre look cheap!
My earliest memory of seeing a movie in a theater is this flick here. Summer 1975 at the Airway Drive-In in St. Louis. I was 2 years old when it dropped. Memories are very faint…but I do remember seeing this.
Good luck & God bless!
What Brad said…
The Mega Screen in there is really nice.
The good news is that we won’t have to deal with Eric Chavez’s stupid spam real estate posts anymore! :)
I should clarify: JJ Abrams Star Trek Sequel (I originally said Star Trek 2…which was released almost 30 years ago). :)

Ain’t no stadium seating in this place at all!
70mm at a Regal? HA!
Upgraded seats would be nice. Cutting down the seats to add legroom ala The Vista would be better!

Can anyone confirm this?
The Premiere Cinema IS NOT side masked. It is top masked. I’ve seen both 1:85 & 2:35 films in there and have confirmed the difference.

Best drive-in theatre in SoCal. DeAnza has done a fabulous job on this (and its sister drive-ins, too!).

Font is different than National Amusements' font for The Bridge. It looked like a bunch of puffy lower case orange lettering.
SAY WHAT? PORTABLE IMAX? LOL!

The Midnight shows were part of Regency’s immediate takeover plans.

They’re not showing 2nd runs here! It’s all first run movies!
