Just went to the theatre last weekend to see scary movie 4, and the only thing that was new was the pre-movie show called “The Clearview”, which debuted in all the clearview cinemas a few weekends ago (this happened to the parsippany location after its grand reopening). I don’t like it. It’s just 20 minutes of propaganda by Cablevision showcasing what’s new with the company. Other than that, the popcorn still tasted good, the sound was good (it was in one of the smaller auditoriums), and the picture was ok.
Just noticed that the new movie theater is up, but not open. It looks bigger than the old rockaway movie theatre that it will replace. It’s a good thing that this theatre will be run by AMC. Finally, AMC theatres will return to rockaway!!! Is it still on track for summer/fall 2006?
Just went to the theatre to see “V for Vendetta” in the same theatre in #4, back to normal, the only thing I noticed was that they cranked up the subwoofer since the theatre’s audio is Dolby Stereo; the picture was pretty good with a few splices and the sound was loud and decent. The outside marquee that says “Clearview Cinemas” is pretty nice and modern, and the popcorn was fresh and good. All in all, this cinema has improved a bit.
This theatre pulled a trailer for the new 9/11 movie, “UNited 93”. Will this hurt attendance at this top-notch theatre? On a lighter note, I used to go to the IMAX part of the theatre to see mostly Imax 3d shows. Never saw a regular film reshot in IMAX…will Superman Returns be shown in 3d at the theatre?
If you want a good example of theatre preservation, look at clearview. Not only do they restore old movie theatres, but they add more screens or renovate/upgrade them for the future, as they did with the Ziegfeld theatre and most recently the renovations of several North Jersey theatres like Succsaunna and Parsippany. Too bad the screens are not as big as those in the good old days.
I can’t wait, either, John. Clearview should call THX to evaluate their theatres (much the same way that AMC/Loews and other major chains do), especially the larger houses. Some of those theatres have crummy projection and bad sound acoustics.
Looks like the East Hanover theatre will be popular due to the fact that the nearby Parsippany cinema is closed for renovations. Once the theatre is reopened, it will still compete for top dollar against the Loews/AMC plex…
With Parsippany closed for a few more days until next weekend, most residents will go to East Hanover, since they have the same number of screens as the Parsippany plex but at a lower price, as well as a tall garage parking lot and tons of shopping around Route 10. Which theatre is better, Parsippany or East Hanover? I think Parsippany is a decent choice, but I go with East Hanover for their pre-show content and large screens
You’re right. Despite the parent company posting record profits (due to cable strength), the knicks are in a losing streak, and fewer people are going to clearview cinemas yet go to rangers games (they are on a winning streak). Maybe clearview should be spunoff into a independent theatre company…
Just went to the theatre last afternoon to see a matinee showing of “Running Scared”…while watching the movie, I heard some booming noises outside auditorium #4; to my suprise, according to the ticket cashier, some of the staff members used a broomstick to clear some dust or something in the lobby…according to the cashier, they might add something to the windows to block the sun from blinding the workers.
Just went to see “Firewall”…good movie, decent crowd before the big snowstorm…it was in theatre #10, which is like #9. Any new info on how the new theatre is doing?
I agree. AMC should renovate the Bridgewater theatre to have rockback seats, unlike the stale seats that were like the old rockaway theatre before it closed.
If you want true stadium seating in a theatre, check out the regal in south plainfield as well as manville and clifton commons, they have great stadium seating.
Has anything changed since I last went to the theatre (last movie I saw there was “The Matrix” in the spring of 1999). Also which of the 14 screens have 8-channel SDDS? The clearview cinemas in my area don’t have the full surround sound of that system.
I don’t know, Paul. Hopefully it will be open during the summer movie going season…

This is terrible news…
That’s good news for shoppers. When will the theatre open?

I don’t know…ask the theatre manager, he might know.
With the new rockaway theatre opening sometime later this year, will this theatre survive?

Once the new rockaway theatre opens, fewer people will go to hackettstown and go to the larger rockaway theater that will have true stadium seating.

Just checked out the listings for the theatre and now it’s closed for renovations? Why?

This is an interesting story…

You know, when AMC completes the loews deal, they will close down the wayne theatre and make it stadium seating….

what type of sdds does the parsippany cinema have in theatre #1? 8 channel or the six channel type?
which of the 12 screen has 8-channel sdds? I know the parsippany cinema’s screen #1 has sdds.
