The Embassy was showing “GRAND ILLUSION”, the Alden (Regency) was not advertising and the Lincoln Square was long gone. The NYT Times Machine is your best, but that is what pretty much what I can see there.

Al, But I still need what movie was playing at one of the three, Embassy, Regency or Lincoln Square if there was one. How do you find that?

Guarina, scroll up to “nearby theatres” and you will find some. Start here

Al Alvarez, Thanks. Was there another theater functioning there in December of 1959, either at 1947 or at 1998, or anywhere at Lincoln Square?

Loew’s Lincoln Square in 1959. Hmmm…

I wonder what was playing on the Imax screen.

Guarina, the original Lincoln Square burned down in 1950.

I’m writing a novel set around West 72nd Street in 1959 and ‘60. Can anybody tell me what movie showed at the Loew’s Lincoln Square on Friday, December 18, 1959? I said “Anatomy of a Murder”, but don’t really know. I published “Love Letters in the Sand”, where I mention another area of New York. Thanks a lot!

Hello-

I thank moviebuff82 for their reply. to which if I understand your reply correctly though Snyder didn’t finish shooting JL he did film scenes that were not use din the theatrical cut?

I don’t know why if directors shoot scenes that are not used in the theatrical cut said scenes aren’t included in the dvd/Blu-ray package. for instance after post production work was done the 1st cut of Call Me By Your Name was 4 hours. I would love to know what was in the 1hr.48mins. not used.

The theatrical cut was too short. I saw the movie and they left out a few scenes that got cut when joss whedon filled in to finish the movie following Mr. Snyder’s daughter committing suicide. The current version that’s on digital and disc has outgrossed the theatrical run. Last jedi on another hand is already sold out on Amazon .

Hello-

I thank Peter A. for his reply. It validates my thought that if Snyder didn’t finish directing the film how can there be a “Zack Snyder cut”. which prompts the question- why do people asking for one?

“if Snyder didn’t finish directing the film how can there be a Zack Snyder cut?”

There isn’t one. At best, there’s a rough cut of his version with unfinished special effects.

Hello-

in WB’s plans to reboot the Superman franchise I enjoyed Justice League wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than either Man of Steel or Superman vs. Batman:Dawn of Justice. now as everyone knows Zack Snyder had to leave JL early because of his daughter’s tragic death. now fans have been loudly asking for Snyder’s cut of the film to be released. to which my question. if Snyder didn’t finish directing the film how can there be a Zack Snyder cut?

No, Lincoln Square didn’t charge extra for the 70mm shows of Phantom Thread. You could see it before noon for the $8 matinee price.

Alamo Drafthouse also charges extra for 70mm. Some theaters do that.

Hello-

though I frequently come here i didn’t see The Phantom Thread here which is where my question comes in. did they charge extra for the 70MM engagement of TPT which lasted several weeks? the reason I ask is simple. I saw Ready Player One at the Village East which was showing it in 70MM in the main auditorium and they charged $20 with no discounts for seniors or children. that $20 was the highest price I have paid for a film that wasn’t 3-D, IMAX or IMAX 3-D.

the odd part is I saw both Wonder Woman and Murder on the Orient Express in 70MM last year at the Cinema 1 also a City Cinemas theater and they didn’t charge extra or not have the senior or children’s discount.

@leowtyx, it really seems to come down to the movie. But at least what AMC/IMAX seemed to do with Thor, Star Wars, Pacific Rim, and now Infinity War is all 3D showings at Lincoln Square, all 2D at Penn Station, and mix in 2D and 3D showings at Empire 25 and Kips Bay.

Does this theater show IMAX Laser in 2D concurrently with 3D when there’s a 3D blockbuster movie?

alpinedownhiller

that happens when there is really bad weather and the main center is shut down, all the ticket sites claim they don’t sell AMC tickets

it happened during the last noreaster when tons lost power out in NJ, that time NYC had tickets, but northern NJ did not

moviebuff82
moviebuff82 on March 22, 2018 at 9:34 am

I think it’s because of the snowstorms.

I think there must be a bug or crash with AMC. I was looking at tickets either to Pacific Rim IMAX or Isle of Dogs tonight, and every ticket service wasn’t working (Fandango, Atom, AMC’s own site), and not just this theater, but also checked the AMC Empire and Kips Bay.

Anyone have any idea why ticketing is disabled on ticket sites such as Fandango and Atom Tickets?

Look up the battle MP is having AMC and you will see that a piece of concessions is part of it. Spending money on tickets is not the same as building theatres. This is all going to court.

digital3d
digital3d on March 21, 2018 at 11:53 am

Where did you read that MP is “demanding concessions percentages”?

They are requesting basic ticket discounts, the same that Costco gets.

And what do you mean they’re making no investments in theaters? They spend millions every month on movie tickets all across the county.

Al Alvarez
Al Alvarez on March 21, 2018 at 11:45 am

By the way, UK ticket prices are much higher. Cineworld is a mostly British based company run by Israelis from main offices in Poland.

Al Alvarez
Al Alvarez on March 21, 2018 at 11:40 am

MP is now demanding concessions percentages from theatres because the business model is not working. They are trying to cut into theatre profits without actually making any investments in theatres. It is a racket scam AMC and Regal will soon be forced to eliminate.

digital3d
digital3d on March 21, 2018 at 11:19 am

It will be shown in IMAX 3D at Lincoln Square.

Some people here prefer IMAX 2D but it seems to be only scheduled for IMAX 3D right now.

@Al: Cineworld is British, no? I assume UK ticket prices are a bit less than American ones. Plus that’s only one chain, MoviePass covers almost all U.S. theaters. Regal as of right now, to my knowledge, has no plans of pulling out, I talked to one of their marketing people and he says it helps Regal and that he used it himself. Once Cineworld takes over Regal, then it might be a different story. But even then I assume that they’ll create their own program in addition to MP rather than pulling out of MP.

Still don’t know why you see it as a “scheme”. It’s a business.
