I drove around town with a huge camel on the top of my car promoting “HAWWPS”.Back in old days. I removed all comments about charles, except the one you wrote,Russ, might want to remove it.Told Charles I did take them off.Zack was always thinking up something,“Whorehouse” promo was pretty HOT. I think Sherri showed more in the Lobby than on the screen, what I saw,and I hate Musicals was pretty tame for an R rated Flick.
Since we just got over the fourth of July, it made me think about past movie promotions. We didn’t do anything for the 4th. I remember Mother’s Day, we gave little apple pies and carnations to each mom. For some of the midnight movies we had magic shows. There was some comedy/love story about a maid and we had a drawing for free maid service. For Stallone’s movie Cobra, we had a stuffed real-looking cobra at the box office and let people take pictures with it. I’m sure I’ll remember more later. Y'all remember any? Will people from other boards read this and join in?
You doggone right,Russell,I owe you a LOTTA LEMOM.
Chuck, I think Mike’s point is that the “big shots” have a habit of NOT listening to the local people for ideas of where theaters should be located. I know General Cinema didn’t. Mike and I both told them that they should consider putting up a theater around the Augusta Mall side of Augusta, instead of behind the Regency Mall. Years after the Regency Exchange went belly-up, a theater sprang up in Evans and one just a few miles away from the Augusta Mall. Now there’s going to be a new one off of RiverWatch Pkwy and I-20. So, the point is that corporate bigwigs should sometimes listen to the local boys.
I tried to tell the big shots at GCC to put it in North Augusta,They listened alright. No GCC anymore.
gave it some thought, last film I viewed here was Jackie Brown in 1997……….
Only saw a couple of movies here, One that comes to mind is Terminator 2 in summer of 1991. From 1989 till 1991 I worked at local TV station WBEK, and we did several promotions here I worked, one was for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles summer 1990…….We aired the cartoon show, and ran a promotion on opening weekend registering kids who came to see the movie for some club and gave away Ninja Turtles Action figures. Did a similar one in 1991 for some other kids movie, forget what it was tho. I always thought it was built in an odd place………You could tell as early as 85-86 which way this part of town was heading…..
Doggone it,robin I can’t find your address,It is not in the phone book, and I lost the one I had.i had some pics to mail you.
She was a manager for Plitt theatres, she put alot of the pictures on for me. I was fired about the time she was hired at National Hills so she had heard of Me.Go to her Homepage she worked a few theatres in Atlanta. Her family were theatre people so she grew up in it.
I don’t get it…who is Robin and why would she want pictures of the Regency Exchange?
Oh Robin, i can make copies for you on the EXCHAHGE when I do Russells.
Yes, i remember, but it must have been with you and Barry; on the weekdays when I closed,You and Zack off, I headed right out with Dray, I never was into those dang things. What is that crap “about leaving him alone” the Mall was pretty much safe.I know we would walk the Girls out,Carol even let me walk her out,Boy, she hated ME.Last time i went to slip in the EXCHANGE the owners had welded all the Exit doors,I was getting in on one in the back,so I don’t think we can get in,but I will dig the Pictures up.THE Mold in the EXCHANGE is horrible,I should have had a mask for the boys and me.I would give anything to get in the Triple.Barry has all kinds of pictures from those days and I can’t get him to let me borrow them to make copies,He always says he will bring them down on the next show.Geez,Robin, I was telling Bill You must have moved to Iceland.I was looking at our reunion pictures about two days ago.I saw Lisa Kunchinski at her Fathers Funeral.Mark too.told Mark about Ct,but he hasn’t posted a thing.oh well. Lisa and Mark both looked liked they hadn’t aged at ALL.YOu being a School teacher,Robin I can see the Headlines “STAGEHAND,NURSE[russell} and SCHOOL TECHER ARESTED AT OLD CINEMAS.”
Mike…if you ever do decide to go on this little adventure, you better call me!!! LOL
Mike, as far as the theater IN the mall, I bet I still remember how to get into that cruddy gate thing that came down to “secure” the theater from the rest of the mall after closing! Hey another memory just came into my big ‘ole head…remember the game machines we had?? I remember them making a “game room” in the little tiny space we used to store those coke cannisters and CO2 tanks…had room for maybe 3 video games…Donkey Kong, Frogger, and something else (Tron?). I remember Zack would set the thing on “free play” and play Donkey Kong for HOURS…well past closing time. We’d get mad because we wanted to go home, and he’d say he didn’t want us to leave him there alone! Those things sure made the money, but I hated squatting down and emptying those things and counting all those quarters. As far as getting into the mall or the Exchange, Barry is a cop, so we should be able to do it with him with us, right?!? Let me know, and I’ll be there to do that and maybe go on to lunch or supper afterward.
Barry also told me that he wanted to slip into the old mall explore the Cinemas and see if he could find a Clock that Zack had on his Desk!Or anything Zack might have left.Wish he would get on CT. even Charles.
every time I see Barry at a Show he says Tell Russell to give me a call. I will have to dig up the pictures,Last i was in there a Cop car drove right threw that old section of Shopping center.but he drove on.Thank goodness,I had Sean and Kyle in there with me. Rochelle is working at Doctors, she thought she saw you at the cafe there.
Yeah, Mike, I’d love to see those, you know I would! Let me know when and I’ll be there. Heck, if I have the time, I’ll even break back into the place with you!! Well…maybe not. Maybe we’ll just meet up for lunch or something. Might be a good time to get Barry and Charles into the discussion…that’d be great!
Russell, when I stunk in a few years ago I took a bunch of Pictures, even Videotaped,be glad to run you off a few, they just closed the theatre and walked out, there was still candy in the Stock room,Plenty of Rats Too.
Oh, wow! Thanks so much for posting that photo, Alonzo! That made my day, seeing “my” old theater. Looking at it, I can just about remember which screens were located where, how small the marquee was, that we had a bad water problem in the planters over there on the left side (water would leak into the bottom of the cinema!), etc.. Good stuff. Wow, I guess a picture IS really worth a thousand words…well, about 40 here, but you know what I mean!
Here a aerial view

even when we were at Regency I could see what was coming everytime i walked into the Mall and you know what i mean.
I was always told, but never knew if it was true but that a theatre Chain wanted to go in Augusta Mall, but that the owners of the Mall did not a movie theatre in the mall.I heard that when I was at Columbia 1 and 2 working for Plitt.
Can’t explain the 1000 Corpses, only it was on the GCC preview sheet i got from the projectionist.Maybe it was another B picture that got pulled from release.
Interesting that trailers for House of 1,000 Corpses were being shown two and a half years before it was released.
Actually, I think that having the theater over by Augusta Mall would’ve been a better location than North Augusta. The closest one to “that side of town” was the Daniel Village theater. Since those years, 2 of the biggest theaters in town are located over in West Augusta/Evans. North Augusta would’ve been great too, don’t get me wrong. But what did we know, right? Those yankees from Boston didn’t listen to the local-yokels!
