This opened on November 2nd, 2001 and reopened as ArcLight on November 22nd, 2007. Grand opening ads posted
Zubi, if thats progress, then I think I’ll stick with old school.
Being from New Jersey, this may seem to be a stupid question, but…in the movie “Valley Girl” (1983) they show a Sherman Oaks Galleria at the closing credits. Is this the same Sherman Oaks Galleria, or has it been remodeled or expanded.
The Santa Monica office of architectural firm Gensler & Associates designed the rebuilding of the Sherman Oaks Galleria, including the ArcLight Cinemas. Gensler also designed the ArcLight project in Hollywood.
It’s already Christmas at the Arclight:

I call this place “Arclight Lite”. Super cramped lobby that desperately tries to duplicate Arclight Hollywood’s lobby – using half the space! Good sounds, good screen, seats ain’t broken in yet – one of my film club members complained about the seats when we saw “Juno”. And the poor guy who did the pre-show introduction was struggling to “remember his lines.”
At least it ain’t $14.00 on a Friday night like it’s big brother.
Don’t know if I prefer this “luxury” version to the old version. For one thing, the lines are slower as people try and select their reserve seats when they buy their tickets. The new seats are not very comfortable, and they were having problems with the air conditioning in the theater I saw “Walk Hard” in opening weekend. They’ve torn out a concession stand by the smaller theaters and for some reason replaced them with a seating area. Trouble is, its a LONG way to go back for popcorn and drinks if you are in theaters 12-16. The hallways have a nice look to them and the addition of curtains in the main entrance are a nice touch, but overall they added some inconvieniences while trying to make for a more upscale movie experience.
