I was just going by what you were saying. In the previous years, I forgot which auditorium was already DLP equipped. I do not recall the auditorium’s number but placement wise, it reminded me of Tysons. What I was saying before was that going by your assumption that 6 had the new install, it would make sense to have them book the new movie Amelia there as opposed to just putting back the older movie, which I’m assuming is the Meatballs 3D movie.

If you go and see Amelia there on time, let us know if there’s a new trailer for the digital system. I don’t think the next big digital movie will come until the movie 2012 is released in a few weeks. That one deserves the IMAX treatment given the size and scale of the destruction fx. Or, the Jim Carrey Disney Christmas Scrooge movie.

Yes, it was 6. If thats the case, why would they show an older movie with the new system? I’d think they would use the new system with the new movie. I should’ve asked. :) Besides, it was the only movie that I recall that specifically had the DP by the title. Also, Movietickets.com has just Wild Things in IMAX and regular film since there’s no DP designation.

I saw Amelia here at the 11am matinee (and perfect price of $6) but arrived late because I had to drop some folks off at a wedding in Pasadena. The film, itself, was good but not great. Its good to see Hillary Swank play a character who doesn’t die horribly…which probably means she won’t get another Oscar for portraying Amelia Earhart. I must say one does believe she captures what Amelia may have been at the time; a little reserved, but having an inner strength to continue despite the odds and obstacles.

Since I arrived late, I could not observe any pre-show ads for the auditorium’s new format. I’m hoping next time I will. The picture itself is as good as digital touts itself to be, bright, flicker and scratch free. The best colors to come out are blues and reds. One could count the freckles on Amelia though they varied throughout the film. At one point, her makeup made her look as if she had chicken pox. Maybe such crystal clarity is not such a good thing. To be honest, I can’t tell the difference between 2K and 4K Digital. You’d think 4K would be twice as sharp. Perhaps a CGI heavy film like a Star Trek would show better. Let’s hope one of the Christmas fx-heavy releases makes it to this venue and in the 4K format to say for sure. I want another try at it.

My cousins and I caught the 5:30pm show of the new Star Trek movie. I can’t believe they sold out all shows and then added a later and earlier show! Surprisingly, the audience make up was older, which seemed to go against the filmmakers intention of making this the most accessible of the Treks. Comparing this viewing to the DLP THX Annapolis showing, I have to give my preference to the latter. This venue’s sound system lacks a deep bass that literally adds punch to scenes involving hand to hand fighting. The thuds were dull here and sorely missing was a good theater shaking during the climax. On the other hand, the screen’s larger size draws one into the action but is not enough to sustain given the sound system’s lack of ooomph.

I have to say even though the theatres are nice, the clientele aren’t. The last movie I saw there; 2005’s ‘Exorcism of Emily Rose’ was my last, to say the teenagers were extremely rude and disruptive is an understatement – a near melee almost ensued when several audience members got sick and tired of some kids that wouldn’t shut up, expletives were said and it got somewhat ugly.

i googled the news section for this venue and nothing comes up except for the fact Batman Returns was reissued for another run in the IMAX and IMAX-lite-DLP theaters like this one. Perhaps it was just an electrical fire and did not effect the theaters but still requires an entire shut down to effect repairs. Hopefully, it’ll be up and running soon. Someone should post news on its reopening when possible.

I was not able to ask any of the theater employees since none were available. However, I believe the theater was closed down for some reason. The outside of the theater in front of the box office was packed with people. The inside looked to be the complete opposite.

Showed up to the theater today and all the patrons were standing outside. Free passes were being given out at the box office. I also saw an usher who was escorting patrons to the exit.

After watching today’s viewing of Madagascar 2, at AMC Columbia 14’s IMAX Digital theater, I may have to soften my previous posts about disliking the format. Granted, the screen size is large but is not true multi-story IMAX large, it is immersive enough when movies fully fill up the screen and the digital projection is decently bright. The audience were comprised mostly of kids and their parents probably because the $9 matinee price is more palatable then the regular $13.50 price. Surrounds were okay but hard to say for sure since I sat in second row. Lacking also is a powerful subwoofer presence that I thought was there when we saw Eagle Eye a few weeks back in the same format. Let’s hope things improve from here on out.

On another note, I purchased tickets online in the event that they would sell out by the time I arrived at the box office. I did include my AMC Moviewatcher number for movie credits but they were not reflected when I retrieved them. Not sure how or why it happened, usually their system is good at capturing everything. I didn’t realize the mistake until I came home. If the numbers don’t reflect by tomorrow, I’ll pay a visit to customer service for an adjustment since at 60 points, I get a free movie pass!

Maybe I should have just gone there in the first place. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a movie there. After dinner, the last two DLP shows were no longer grayed out on MovieTickets.com – not like they were before I left this morning. So it appears they have fixed the projector.

Theatre #1 is now blocked off/closed and under construction for IMAX. Planned to see WALL-E in DLP but was told that the projector was broken. Ended up seeing WALL-E in #2 (one of the large theaters), which was packed.

MovieTix, were you able to see where the construction actually is? Are they converting the exiting ones or is it a built-on addition? I’m curious as to how they are going to accomplish it at that venue since its more or less closed in.
