It is listed under AMC in the LA Times Calendar section today. AMC Criterion 6, all three Cinemas on the Promenade are listed under AMC.
Now listed amongst the AMC Theatres in the Los Angeles times page.
Mann has taken this theater off their website not long ago. Checking the recording they still have it as the Mann Criterion. Tomorrows news ads will tell the story..
John, I haven’t seen him in years. When I was working for Warner. My boss and Chuck Allen and the manager would go out to dinner on one of our pictures opening weekends.
William, where is Chuck allen now? he was my DM at Fashion Island, i really liked him and Anita.
That’s what I thought. I didn’t know the downstairs were stadium. I have never seen a movie downstairs. Only upstairs twice in the same auditorium.
3 up, 3 down. Downstairs all stadium. Upstairs all slope.
Ed.. I haven’t been to the Criterion for years.. Is it multi level too.. Right?
The Mann Glendale theatres do not post their showtimes until Thursday afternoon, and has been that way since the time the Pacific 18 opened up across the street two years ago. The remaining theatres usually get their showtimes programmed Tuesday afternoon, but for some reason, it takes a couple hours for them to propagate online.
I worked as an assistant at the Criterion in 2006 and 2007, and it is not a barrel of fun to run. I hope AMC keeps some of the managers aboard, because it has a good crew currently.
Yes, Harry was there & John Hamilton and yes those were the other films screened there on that day. And DM Chuck Allen.
William, I remember going to that also. They had a pre-opening event with the 3 Star Wars films and the 3 Indiana Jones films. ALL off Mann’s Westwood management were there including Harry Francis.
During the Grand Opening day they had Special screenings. I saw “Return of the Jedi”. I have to look at my photo proofs as to the other films screened that day.
Mann actually opened the Criterion 6 on June 27 1990, not 1991 as it indicates above. Mann opened the theatres 3 Months after AMC 7 openened and about 7 months after Cineplex Odeon opened the Broadway 4 Theatres.
The Criterion’s first films were Days of Thunder, Ghost Dad and Tie Me Up Tie Me Down.
Well the Criterion was one of Mann’s highest performing plexes in the chain.
I was thinking the same thing. Would make sense since AMC is determined to control downtown Santa Monica.
AMC might want it to keep any other operators out.
The Plant, Glendale Marketplace, Janns Marketplace have tickets on pre-sale for the new Twilight movie online…under Mann.
I think other operators are taking over leases as they lapse. It is 20 years this month since Mann opened the Criterion. My guess, AMC took over the lease once Mann said they were closing shop and not interested in continuing. Pretty much as leases expire, they are not renewed. Mann waited for the leases to end when Regency took over the Village and Bruin.
I remember they wanted AMC to drop the Broadway 4. But that was last around last Fall.
AMC was talking about a new plex in the spot where the parking structure is behind the Criterion. I’m wondering if AMC taking the Criterion has something to do with future plans. Not sure the latest status though. Perhaps SM City Counsul shot the project down.
Did some checking online.
Janns Marketplace, Glendale 10 and 4 and the Plant 16 have no showtimes past Thursday.
Chinese, Chinese 6 and Westlake 8 have showtimes for Friday and past Friday.
I know its too early to speculate about the closure of these locations, but I know the Glendale 10 has been rumored to be packing it up soon. If the Criterion goes to AMC, I can see the Plant going to another operator as well.
That makes the second time Mann has dropped the Criterion from the chain. The single and the six plex. So what is the city of Santa Monica going to do with three AMC plexes and wasn’t AMC going to built something else too?
What’s next AMC CHINESE 6? Mann is really whittling down to nothing.
I guess theres a new aka in store for this theatre now.
Anybody notice this?
