Saw" Jeremiah Johnson"and there we actully put a couple of guys in the trunk. Guess everyone has. Saw “SERPICO” there and a little sleeper second hit “BANG THE DRUM SLOWLY” “RETURN OF THE DRAGON” and “FIVE FINGERS OF DEATH”. It was a great drive-in.
First outdoor showing “TRUE GRIT” i was there!!!!
After a nice run at the IMPERIAL, “UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT” opens at the WEIS DRIVE-in. Second feature “COME BACK CHARLESTON BLUE”.
HORROR CHILLERS!
FOR JUST $1.00 per person: BLOOD OF DRACULA’S CASTLE. HORROR OF DRACULA’S CASTLE, NIGHTMARE IN WAX,STING OF DEATH and HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND. First feature hits the screen at 8:15 and the last one comes on at 2:10 am. 5 horror movies. really a weak line up of Horror movies, but i bet the rentals were dirt cheap. April 5 1975.
I have said it before, there outta be law to keep theatre owners from changing names, call it WEIS/US 25 on the header. that is fine with me and do the same thing for Columbia 1 and 2.
Hi Chuck,
Please contact me at I would love to see your pictures of the Hartford Cinerama theatre!
Thanks,
Roland
Around here I think more people remember it as a flea market as they do the US 25 Drive In.
Columbia Square Cinemas should be listed as Columbia 1 and 2 as far as i am concerned! It was a beautiful Twin theatre with large screens until GEORGIA THEATRESwent in there and put two more screens in. Yes, it closed as US 25 Drive in, but its history to anyone in Augusta was the WEIS DRIVE-in. By, the time Georgia THEATRES bought it,they didn’t care about putting on a good show. US 25 DRIVE In would often drop a reel. I knew the projectionist there and he told me he would make water ballons and throw on folks going to the snack bar, No i think it needs to stay WEIS DRIVE-IN Georgia Theatres did it no good.
Hi Chuck,
Sorry if this is off topic but, I’m trying to contact Chuck1231. He sent me an email saying he had pictures of the Colonial in Hartford, CT when it was a Cinerama theatre. I would love to see them!
Thanks,
Roland
Your Husband must have been a cool guy.I have never met many constipated theatre managers.Well, maybe Mr.A..
I was lucky
1. I could just yell for my husband —-ahhh,come help me, I broke it!!!
2. I was on unemployment, not officially on the payroll, don’t blame me, I don’t even work here!!!
I was sitting up in the booth at REGENCY talking to Chuck Dray and “TIGHTROPE” was in Cinema one and before he knew it the whole floor was covered with Clint Eastwood nope wanted no part of that job.
The booth is a very scary place when film is wrapped all around everything and falling all over the place! hahaha
Yeah, they were getting ready to throw the UNION out, I got out in time I wanted nothing to do with that booth.
Hey Mike…excuse me, but by the time I left I could have even jumped in the booth!!!
It was a FULL MOON yesterday everybodys a little cranky!!!!
Okay, I wILL GET THE PIECE of the Screen in the mail in the next fews days. I meant to put it in the last package i mailed. OUR theatres were the best in the country.I would put my staff at any ABC,PLITT or GCC up against chain in the country, Want to know why we would win? or the most part, we kept our jobs for years and could jump in anywhere except the booth, Simply put our people kept their jobs very few would quit after a month or two.IT WAS THAT GREAT and FUN.
I would not worry about it Robin.
Well…I’m new on here and was only doing what I thought I was supposed to be doing. Didn’t mean to offend anybody….I will try to stay on task from now on :)
I would love to feed yall…and I would like a piece of that screen! I just see how much better the scans of the real pictures look. I don’t want any of our theatres to look bad on here!
If Chuck does not like your posts or mine he can skip over them.No offence to him as he is a great asset to C.T. with info and photos the is a lot of bull posts on here but at least we are talking about the theatres we worked in and enjoyed.
OKAY, IF you want to feed us. I do not mind mailing pictures to you. I am going to send a few of NATIONAL HILLS after it closed. I went in thru a back door and took a few shots inside and it think they will look good on the site. PLUS i owe you a piece of that MOVIE SCREEN!
Bill only sent pictures from the reunion. I wish he would send some. When the weather warms up I’ll have a cookout for yall. You eat and I’ll scan pages from your book. Not the whole book — put sticky notes on the best pages! Bill can bring his too.
TLSLOEWS.I saw on NATIONAL HILLS chuck 1231 thinks we should keep the consersation on the theatre I thought we did that 80% of the time.we might get off topic discussing a movie that played there and start talking about the film. But I always try and talk Theatre: let the Critics talk film.
Boy TSLOEWS i tried everyone i knew if they could do what Robin is doing and i came up blank.I guess people don’t have a scanner.
