A closer address is 1970 Phinizy Rd, Augusta, GA.
Google has updated their addresses and this puts it right on the property.
As of September 2019, it is still open ground with a small pile of what might be rocks and soil towards the back where the projection booth/concession stand once stood.
However, Google also lists the Divine Purpose Worship Center as being on the property, so it may have been built on already.
that might have been bill barkley..thanks..
I found, by accident, some late 1960’s 8mm footage of the Weis Drive In on Youtube. The Drive in footage starts at 1:03 and runs through 3:15 in the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGEF7C58Vs8. The comments with the video say that their father was the projectionist there.
Nothing just big field of weeds……
talk of a big ampitheatre going there on that site, i don’t see it happening out there…
I grew up in this area. This site became a flea market by the 1990s.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 2020 Phinizy Road.
thanks japatters,great story.
Know those towering steel forms and the white Weis scipt over chocolate backround very well! First experience I remember at Weis drive-in was mom treating wee me and the family dog to our first drive-in movie. So excited but more cozy in the goose down pillows. Also remember finding myself on the abandoned space to snag a smooch (literally) with my college boyfriend between family visits. Looking up “Six Pack Annie” after this post…
John Bugg, Projectionist told me this story, one night after closing, the manager, who John said was on “THE CRAZY SIDE"saw a car slip in.The manager went out on the lot to the car, fired a handgun in the air, scared the you know what out of three boys, hogged tied them in the back room of the concessionstand, until the movies ended. TRUE story,Can’t make this up, guys.
Playing August 15 1969,“GOODBYE COLUMBUS” and “THE DETECTIVE”
How did miss “THE DEVIL’S RAIN” and “TERROR FROM THE CRYPT” on August 15 1975.“CRYPT"the much better film.Peter Cushing at his best.
Movies that played at The Weis Drive-in.
Sept.24 1971 “SUMMER OF ‘42” and the “WILD BUNCH” what a double feature.
March 15 1974 a movie i hate, “BILLY JACK” and “FLAP”
Oct4 1974 “CAGED HEAT” and “HOT BOX”
August 29 1976 a cheapie that is also running down the street at the Weis Cinema,“INFRAMAN”.
Nov 24 1976 “JAWS” and “SPIDER INVASION” guess most folks left after the first feature.
July 14 1978 “MANITOU” and “DOMINO PRINCIPLE”
Jan 25 1980 “SCAVENGER HUNT” and probably the last time on a AUGUSTA Drive-in Screen “TELL THEM WILLIE BOY IS HERE” sorta another crazy double feature.
“wonder” sorry.
Looking over some old newspaper ads from 1968 and the WEIS Drive-in on the newspaper had written.“AMERICA’S FIRST DRIVE-IN with AIR CONDITION !”.June 1 1968.Just winder if it was a boost from a Theatre Manager.

U.S. 25 & Phinizy Rd, Augusta, GA 30906
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is visible on Google Earth using present day imagery.
Now playing Weis Drive-in called Augusta’s Luxury Drive-in on June 6 1970, “LIBERATIION OF L.B. JONES” and “SLAVES”.
X -rated movies would play here with the Oscar Winners,“THE MINX” and “SUDDENLY A WOMAN” opens Dec.4 1970.
June 14 1968 odd pairing of “GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER” and “THE PROFESSIONALS”.
Dec 13 1974 “CLASS OF ‘44” and “SUMMER of '42”
August 7 1970 has “PAINT YOUR WAGON” and “THE APRIL FOOLS” showing.
August 17 1979 day and date with Columbia 1 and 2 Theatres, return of “STAR WARS” most are coming to see the trailer for “EMPIRE STRIKES BACK” which will play at GCC’s REGENCY MALL I.II.andIII.
May 8 1970 “OLIVER” and “THE WAR WAGON”.
August 9 1968 1st outdoor showing Elvis in"SPEEDWAY" and “DAY OF EVIL GUN”.
Just a few more movies.
Dec.22 1967 has the 1930 “DRACULA” with Bela Lugosi and the 1930 Boris Karloff “FRANKENSTIEN” playing.Advertised as the Un-cut versions!Very odd booking for the late sixties. We played both features on a Late Show at National Hills in the middle 70’s and did okay for two nights.
October 25 1974 “The Clint Eastwood” of North Carolina,He wishes,Earl Owensby.Millionaire with some movie equipment makes “CHALLENGE” Rated PG and naturally it plays the Drive-ins.Usually Weis Drive-in would play A product. This was D at best.Second Feature,a real action Star,Charles Bronson in “THE STONE KILLER”.
August 30 1975 after having runs at Weis Cinema and National Hills"ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH" hits the Weis Drive-in with James Caan in the second hit and MUCH BETTER film,“THE GAMBLER”
Drove by the old WEIS DRIVE-IN location.A church was suppose be built there, but nothing. It has been kept up such as grass cut and no trees growing everywhere.
It looks from what i can read on CT WEIS had “sister” DRive-in like this one here in Augusta in MACON and Savannah.
AS i said before,Before GEORGIA THEATRES GOT AHOLD OF IT.
