In the 1970’s it changed from Loew’s to Loews 5 (and Eaton’s to Eaton) due to bill 101.

From the early 1970s, a postcard view of Loew’s in Montreal.
Don…
Great site and pictures.
Here’s another from the 1960s with Loew’s, the Pigalle, the Capitol.
This old postcard shows several Rue Saint Catherine movie theatres including the Cinema de Paris, Palace, Capitol, Strand, Loew’s.
a gym is opening in jan. 2005 in the auditorium section of the building, it is called club mansfield and the website is at clubmansfield.ca. it will be quite a gym.
In the wake of modern suburban movie theatre chains, the Loews Theatre was the one cinema that still managed to covey to its visitors the pure magic of ‘an evening at the movies’. I do not understand why it was abandoned, and why not a soul has stepped forward to restore this movie theatre to its original status of “Grande Dame” ruling over St. Catherine’s Street. In my opinion, it was a true Montreal landmark, and it saddens me to see it advance in the various stages of its final decay.
a Foot Locker store opened in the entryway of the Loew’s on June 7,2004, the main auditorium area with a seperate entrance on Mansfield is still “a vendre ou louer”
Club Med World closed in March 2003, the building is now up for sale, no takers as of Dec 2003
