Supposed to reopen April 3rd but has not yet done so.
Please update, the theatre opened in 1975 as a Twin, expanded to a triplex in 1983, five in 1985 and 8 in 1987 to the present number. I researched old Newsday’s online.
This theatre was independent way before Cineplex Odeon. Please read robboeham comment about this theatre. Cineplex Odeon took over this theatre plus Sayville, Islip and Hampton Arts for a few years. Prior to the merger with Loews, went back independent. Se article and ad in pictures
Listings (NY Daily News) started in August 1989. Opened by Cineplex Odeon.

Just came back from the Mattituck. Theatres 4 and 5 are the ones carved from the former storage area.
I have the definitive word from an electrician who used to service the shopping center complex including the theatre. The original single screen space was divided up on a couple of occasions resulting in 6 auditoriums. When what used to be storage space for an adjacent business was relinquished, it was acquired by the theatre for two additional, small screening rooms just past the concession stand to the left. Next time I’m there I’ll determine the auditorium numbers (some combination of 4,5 and 6).
Visited here for the first time tonight. The place is a labyrinth of corridors leading to surprisingly large and well appointed auditoriums. I don’t know if all this was achieved within the space of the original theater or whether the property was expanded. The manager didn’t either. My only complaint was that the sound from the adventure film next door spilled over into my auditorium.

As you can see above I tried to get that but encountered a really stiff-nosed manager worthy of the old Westbury.

I just started going to this theater in 2012, first seeing Moonrise Kingdom. Nice small theaters, always keeping a sweet art film on the roster. A calm place to get lost for a few hours. In the mall, a great ice cream store on one side, a great Chinese take-out/sit-down on the other. Mix'em all together for a pleasant visit.
Since I was in the area I stopped in at the theatre today since it was open. I hoped to find out a. whether additional space was added to the original theatre footprint when additional screens were added and, b. the seating capacity of each of the auditoriums. The manager met me at the door, was unwilling to answer any questions and asked me to leave. Must have been trained by the former owners of the Westbury. However, it looked to me that the auditoriums to the left of the lobby MIGHT be additional space since, from the exterior of the building, the higher roof portion is to the right, presumably the original space.
And if you’ll notice, I added the old theatre to the site a couple of weeks ago. I was inside and way pointed out some of the remnants of the old theatre hidden in a storage area.
The old theater is now a sporting goods store called East End Sporting Goods. The “M” is still on the marquee.
Per my comments above the theatre is still standing. Although the marquee is still in place the theatre name has been removed. As I said, it’s very obvious what it was. As my computer skills improve, and I establish the old theatre on this site I may even take a picture.
I haven’t been back to Mattituck in a number of years, but would like to know if the old theatre building is still standing, and if the current tenants have kept the old marquee
Before the current Mattituck theatre there was one on the opposite side of the road a short distance away. What they did was construct a small, metal Quonset hut and put on a “fancy” facade with a “pointed” marquee. At the point was a large “M”. The building, with observable marquee is still in tact. The next time I’m in the area I’ll make notes of the address current occupant, and post it. I’d do it now but once something is up I don’t believe we have the facility to make updates, only comments. Is this correct?

ddb65—-THE old auto parts store was the theater then it became a bike shop…i have interior pics of the old theater….
Look at the entries for the Greenport theater. It talks about exactly that.
If memory serves me right … Mattituck had a theater long before the Mattituck Twin [now 8] opened. It was just a block or so east up Rte 25. I think it was a single screen. When I was growing up in the area it was home to Mattituck Auto Parts. Anyone have more info?
I agree with that but there is a huge difference between the quality of the presentation then and the presentation now.
I was dm for this theater for CIneplex and can tell you for sure the grosses have always just been fair . Fair for a theater that has no competion for MILES is not good . Someday a theater will go in RIVERHEAD and when it does this is done!
we just may have a different idea of what WELL is .
When cineplex ran the theater, there were many breakdowns. I have the service reports to show it. Cineplex never put any money into the place. The landlords do run the theater now and have put lots of money into renovations. They get first run movies and do well. I’m there enough to see it. They have been trying to put a theater in Riverhead for a while now and it fell through.
