You are correct, Sir! BTW, there was this elderly matron (in a white hospital-like outfit) at the matinees, circa 1963. She knew the troublemakers and used to seat them apart when you walked into the theatre. If you talked during the movie, she shined a flashlight in your face and told you to “shut up”. Tough cookie!
Was this the theater that was renamed Studio ‘76 (or something like that before it closed around 1980? This was in a shopping center with A & P and Grand Union on Carman’s Road.
Born in the Bronx, but I was raised in Massapequa.
The Amityville Theatre was my favorite with it’s big screen and balcony. Next up, was the Copiague All-Weather Drive-in “indoor” theatre. Huge…with a balcony! When I saw a matinee of “The Chairman” & “The Detective” there in 1968, I was the only person in the theatre!

Stop! Farmingdale has a big multiplex where Republic is/was on Route 110.
The building and environs remain, but;no movie can be seen in Amityville, Carmans road, Copiague, Bethpage ,Lindenhurst or in Farmingdale. I was just in the area last week and realized that all the movie houses I used to visit are no more. Even the row of movie theaters on 42nd street are gone. I remember before the renaissance one had quite a selection of several movies within feet of each other. The Beekman was nice too.
The Big “A” Amityville Theatre was right in downtown Amityville, in the town square (or triangle) across from a Memorial statue and a few doors down from Lange’s Shoe Store. The marquee was a long strip on the upper left of the building. The building is still there. Last time I was there, it was offices.

OK , yes remember getting over to the Amity theater from Carmans Road throught the parking, lot between the buildings in that strip mall,…you’re good Don! Now where was the Big Amityville theater? Was it downtown Amity Village?
Don..you’re right. I go way back to the Amityville movies…back to
the early 50s. Every Saturday found us kids on line..(and I mean on
a line,not in front of a computer)paying 20 cents to see 2 pics,
cartoon,pathe news,coming attractions while munching on a 5 cents
candy. One Saturday we found out to our horror that the price was
raised to a stratospheric…quarter! Luckily my mother always
brought us and saved us from disaster!

No. That was the AmityVILLE Theatre called The Big “A” Amityville. The Amityville was huge with a balcony. The Amity was a tiny shoebox.
In many block ads this is called UA’s big “A” ?
