I think the landlords of Bayview Village kicked out Atlantis Alliance for some local business person who wants to open a spa, something like that. I think the new Silvercity will help make up the lost of Bayview Village or more likely the old Victoria Terrace. The Rainbow cinemas were fine but not to Cadillac Fairview who thinks it is out of date, 80’s style and the mall is going under a renovation and redevelopment project.
This Rainbow closed on Jan 11, 2008 because the landlords have kicked them out in flavor of Cineplex returning to the mall. This is will be interesting because of the limited space of the cinemas and how Cineplex going to enlarge the theaters. Will it be a Silvercity similar to Oakville? I will not be surprised if it is a Silvercity since another Silvercity have been sold to Empire Theaters. The nearest Silvercity is located in Richmond Hill. There are two Cineplex Odeons at Eglinton Square and at Sheppard and Yonge. Up north in Markham is another Cineplex Odeon. This theater is scheduled to open at the end of this year.
This theatre was taken over by Empire Theatres due to the merger between Famous Players and Cineplex. I think it was sold because its age along with Jackson Square and Kings College.
Thats the nature of business, Cineplex sold off high rent, low attendance and ageing theatres to Empire so they can make more money then them. I agree the Tivoli and the Century need to be brought back. If Jackson Square needs to be replaced, people will need to write letters and petitions to Empire or even Cineplex to build new theatres in downtown Hamilton. Large theatre companies such as Cineplex losing money due to low attendance and in my opinion, it is a worse time to build theatres right now.
Famous Players just like Allen Brothers overexpanded and got sold. Innovative though and as a consumer, I could not care less if a big company goes out of business. I prefer renting dvds or go to the nabes. I rather let the Cineplexes, Empires and AMCs do the worrying.
Those old Paramount employee uniforms are going to be thrown out and there is no word yet the theatre is going to rebrand into Cineplex Odeon. Getting paid for your name on the theatre is a neat idea.
I work at the Paramount theatre, do not blame the theatre management for the security at the advance screenings. Film companies does the hiring of the security guards. The only time the management hires security guards are weekends to keep troublemakers out.
This have to do with Gold Class Cinemas coming in.
This theatre probably have the distinction being the last Famous Players.
The theatre was owned by Nathan Taylor and Famous Players.
This theatre was owned by Premier Theatres (Allen Brothers)till 1970 when they sold it to Famous Players according to their website.

I think Scotiabank should put its name instead of their Air Miles brand. I just think it sounds silly.
Welcome to the Scotiabank theatre and enjoy your show. All 4 Paramount theatres will be renamed Scotiabank Theatre beginning at 2007. Source? www.ccnmatthews.com/news/releases/show.jsp?action=showRelease&searchText=false&showText=all&actionFor=619642
Smith is right, that truck is ugly.
Sorry my bad, I got the wrong theatre.

I think it was called Eden Lux back in the 70’s when Famous Players owned it and yes, it was an adult movie theatre.
This theatre still exists and it is own by Empire Theatres. The theatre is pretty lucky not get demolished.
Empire Theatres Canada is not related to any Empires around the world.

The bronze railings have been removed after Cineplex bought FP.
This theatre is bought by Empire Theatres.
