Humm, interesting Paul. I wanna go to their Showplace 12 in Bolingbrook pretty soon, and then I’d like to go to the Showplace at Golf Mill when that opens. And I’ve been here(Webster Place) before on the 9 Ashland bus. Boy I don’t wanna do that again because, a fight broke out between a man and woman. The woman won.
Thanks Paul for looking into Foxfield and that article. Right now my dad is the only one with a car, so he’s late on taking me to different locations around chicagoland.
REOPENS JUNE 2ND! I saw the ad on the Cineplex Odeon marquee located by RO 9-10. I can’t wait to see the changes Jenco made.
Oh, thanks for the advice Paul. I’ll get started on a business proposal soon. I will never be like Meridian and Village. I’ll make sure I have a solid business plan. My idea is to buy properties thats doing well, but most people don’t want. AMC Pipers Alley for example.Tthen in a few years, I’ll start buliding new theaters.
I’m aware that Kerasotes is coing to Chicago and outlying areas. I guess I’ll have to get started very soon.(Which is what I want anyway)
Anybody remember when Lethal Weapon played here for a while? I only have that on microfilm. Come to think of it, Golf Mill down the road played a 70mm engagement of one of my favorite films of that year, Stakeout.
Everything was pretty even until Loews Cineplex closed River Oaks 7-8. After that, the rest as they say, is history. Before RO 7-8 closed, River Run/Lansing 8 was showing a mix of first run and second run movies. They got first run every 2 weeks or something like that. I love the new cinema 8, but something’s missing from the way I remember it. I seem to reall the concession stand being V shaped, now it’s a straight lined stand. Theater 1 isn’t as big as it used to. In fact, theater 1 had 70mm projection. Also, I went to see 16 Blocks in theater 4 a few weeks ago, and that auditorium was just as small as theaters 15 and 18 at River East. And the way the auditorium walls are colored, that green and yellow doesn’t look good to me. I remember when those walls were blue. They should’ve keept that color. Despite all that, it’s a really nice place. I can’t wait to see what they do with River Oaks 1-6.
BTW, didn’t River Run have a seating capacity of over 3000 seats? I don’t think it’s near that today.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Say, I’ve got a few questions for the people who’ve been here recently. One: What do the seats and screens kinda look like? Two: Does it look ratty? Three: Are the bathrooms ok? I read MichaelCollins’s comment and it shouldn’t be bad. I’m getting ready to go here next weekend and I’m hoping that the place doesn’t look like it had rats running around since December. Oh, these questions are for my mom and she’s picky about where I drag her to. So basically, what I’m trying to know is this: Is the place is like Burnham Plaza(02-05) or worse? And my mom didn’t mind going to Burnham.
I’ve never been inside here, but my brother says it’s huge. I think it has something like 4400 seats in total. Anyway, is this theater doing well? Because Cinemark at Melrose Park is not far away.
Ooh, If Century takes over, I’ll be here all the time. I’m sure they would put their concessions there. A_projectionst, do you know of any other theater news?
It’s a shame what happened to this place. The people hanging out here just probably killed it. I also want to add that this was a 5 screener, not 6. I read that microfilm ad wrong. Man, I hope I can find interior photos of this, it would give my dad a smile. My brother, who went here once to see Predator here in 1987, said that Station remineded him of Burnham Plaza long after Station closed. He also said something about Station having a gray carpet with black stripes around it, and the theatres themselves looking like a Cineplex Odeon with the zig-zag stuff with lights on the auditorium walls, and that the seats had cream colored backs with a grayish padding. And did this place have escalators like he said?
Right now, my corporation is in the devlopment stages. The project I’m doing at the moment is a school paper.(about to be done once and for all) Anyway, I’m going to write up a business proposal, try and get funding etc… Then who knows, I may be able to get this off the ground later this year or next year. If I succeed, I plan to remodel Oakbrook 1-4 and put 3 more screens in it. As far as North Riverside goes, if I can turn it into a 11/12 screener, it could operate like Webster Place and City North because let’s not forget, Kerasotes is coming in the N. Riverside area this fall. Wish me luck everyone!
To Jimpiscitelli: Do you have any suggestions for a theater corporation name? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I’m glad Century is turning Stratford Square into a 16 screener. It just seems that Village takes more care of Village North and V Art than the others.
It’s coming along nicely. I’ve even wrote about Cineplex Odeon and their overbuilding. After that, I might get to Village Theatres. When I become a theatre owner, I might try and take over their operations.

I’ll be here ASAP. I’ve never been to a Kerasotes theater and I like to see how they do things in terms of staff and etc…

What was the Avco 70MM print of Stakeout like Christan?
Pinkgrrl: Can you tell me what kind of food they have at the food court area? I plan to go here this weekend.

I’ve heard that the new 12 screener will have over 3300 seats in total. Can’t wait for it to open. I wish I went here though.
That’s good news from Village. I’ll try and see the next must-see here and snap some photos. Thanks for the news Paul.
BTW, I saw The Rock at Water Tower(mall cinemas). It was a little after Cineplex Odeon’s remodel.
I read somewhere that this place opened in 1975 as a single screener. Can anyone confirm this?

I don’t know about 7-8. The Lansing Cinema 8 website just says River Oaks 6. Looks like 7-8 may become retail or something.
Humm, Cinema City sounds pretty good. Hopefully I can get started with this chain soon.
Go to www.lansingcinema8.com and there should be a little link saying River Oaks 6, opening May 2006. I can’t wait.
Jenco’s taking over River Oaks 1-6. Reopening’s set for this May.

Maybe that’s hope for me. I want to own movie theatres and River Oaks is on my wish list.

A Projectionist:
Back in February, you posted that Village is reopening River Oaks. Do you know what happened with that?
It’s coming along nicely. I’ve even wrote about Cineplex Odeon and their overbuilding. After that, I might get to Village Theatres. When I become a theatre owner, I might try and take over their operations.
Village took down the sign. I remember going past this place in 99 and I think I saw the Meridian logo out front.
