Chris 1982 when I was there a few years back the were renovating the theater for live use. The marquee was back. Are you sure this is a new picture? It looked like that picture 5 years ago.

They showed a lot of Disney films in the late 60 to early 70’s when they closed.

I saw several movies here when I lived in NYC. From what I remember, Star Wars, Altered States, Superman, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and the rest I can’t remember

Great news. A theater once more and not demolished or converted into some stupid retail space. :)

Did Bow Tie take their sign down? I know Walter Reade Theaters have been long sold off but it would be great if their family restarted the company by taking over this wonderful gem.

Can anyone tell me if this theater had true scope on the screen it looked very large. I know it was a Floyd theater and they were known for always wanting the full screen so scope features were off in outer space and the bushes. I hated it

Status needs to be updated to 2 screens and a twin. If you look closely at the newspaper add you’ll see it was a twin.

Status update the theater is being gutted for a restaurant/ retail space at the new Asheville Outlet Mall. Very sad no chain came in to rescue this theater.

StanMalone it was very small but comfortable theater. I saw All That Jazz there and one other film. They had great curtains that opened and closed during the previews and before the main feature .

That is what the Ziegfeld need is to have films showcased only at that theater.

I saw Scrooge and Funny Lady there in the 70’s and the screen was great. I can’t imagine how horrible it was a twin.

Very upsetting News. See the Citizen Times article

ASHEVILLE — A Texas-based real-estate investment company has bought East Asheville United Artists Beaucatcher Cinemas 7 at roughly half its assessed value.

UDC Global LLC paid about $2.46 million to the Las Vegas Trail Theatre Company for the property at 321 New Haw Creek Lane, according to Buncombe County Register of Deeds documents.

The land and structure have a 2015 assessed value of $4.58 million, those documents say.

Register of Deeds officials recorded the sale on April 9.

William McGuire, a UDC Global LLC executive, did not respond to a voicemail left for him Tuesday at the company.

He also did not respond to a phone message left for him Tuesday with Belinda Burke, a paralegal who prepared the deed. Burke works at Arnall Golden Gregory LLP, the Atlanta-based law firm that represented UDC Global during the purchase.

Properties owned and managed by UDC Global include a golf resort in Villa Rica, Georgia, and a residential community in Atlanta, according to its website.

A manager at the movie theater declined comment when a reporter called and asked when the cinema was scheduled to close.

He referred all questions to Ken Thewes, of the Regal Entertainment Group, the company based in Knoxville, Tennessee, which runs United Artists Theatres.

A phone message left for Thewes on Tuesday was not returned.

A sheville city officials said that as of Tuesday, UDC Global had not filed any documents that show plans to develope the property.

Nick do you know if the theater went digital? I hated this and all the drive-in that Floyd theaters owned except the 20th Century. They wanted the screens filled at all times so if a film was in scope it was off the screen into the bushes. Digital would have solved that.
