“Nickleodeon” had a seven week run here!Must not have been playing day and date with other locations in that city.7 weeks for that O'Neal-Reynolds turkey.
“ZARDOZ” Sean Connery. What a bomb.Played it a week and it was gone and I don’t think to drive-ins.We had doorman who stayed high on Grass. He saw “ZARDOZ” and it completely “Changed his Life”.Go figure. No Roger you weren’t going crazy.Played at {National Hills Theatre,on CT}.
Can’t remember you ever told me they opened the theatre with a prayer, which there is nothing wrong in that, but “CANDY” a rather hot pictue for its day. Really.LOEWS slipped up on that one.I know something should have been booked in.We opened COLUMBIA 2 with “A Star is Born” which was an R rated film but you gotta admit a few steps up from this drive-in movie. I am pretty sure you sent me the Newspaper ad of opening night. Ringo Starr co-star.Just about the time the Beatles were breaking up.Terry Sutherland wrote it.He penned “The Magic Christian” a M rated movie.
I didn’t realize UNITED ARTISTS was a theatre chain in the in the mid 70’s as the above contribution by Chuck is given. I thought they were a newer chain. You learn something everyday.
We tend to joke around with other old employees never thinking about facing an armed robbery. Two of my friends were robbed making a drop off at the bank. They had two desposit bags hidden under their coats so the bum only got one,About a week later they think the same guy robbed our City Manager of the Imperial in Augusta. He too was dropping off a deposit. I hoped they got fried for the murders.I couldn’t read the sad chapter.
I have somehow forgotten to mention the large road marquee at DANIEL VILLAGE.It wasn’t anywhere near the Theatre but on Gordon Highway directing folks onto Highland Ave to DANIEL VILLAGE. It must have stood 50 feet or more above the road and must have been hairy to change letters. It was there for a long time before it was removed and I never never really knew why unless it was so far away at a couple of miles.
09-26-73 Robert Blake’s Classic “ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE” opens at Daniel Village rated pg.

Oak Ridge,Tenn. probably had the same expansion of screens in the 50’s.Both Cities built the A-Bomb.
In 1956 Omaha had 5 Drive-ins. Sunset Drive-in had either closed are wasn’t built yet. It wasn’t inclued in the five, unless of a name change.
It did have a short life, but Aiken S.C. went drive-in crazy at that time maybe the bomb plant had something to do with it.
Very nice looking Drive-in.But one would expect that in East Tenn. Right TLSLOEWS.
Boy,CARMIKE is good at closing Theatres.
Good old CARMIKE Cinemas.
1956 Motion picture Almanac has it parking 400 cars!

Nick, I don’t believe you would ever sneak into another theatre.

Good writing I enjoyed reading it. “ROOSTER COGBURN” was a remake in my book with the Duke and Kate. She held her own with Bogie and Duke.
